Howzit everyone?
16 November..the early days of summer.. yet it is still cold..
it was warming up, we had a few days of beautiful sunshine
and heat..warming my skin as I walked through the farms or
around town..my skin transformed from pale white to more
acceptable tan.. and now..again... it is quite cold, damp
and gray.

Dear summer, please come soon!!

I do not have any new photos, well I do, but not enough to
post yet..I want to wait until I have more to add. So next time,eh?

I have been staying more at Neil and Ingrid's place, as Sam is
working heavier hours now and I get quite bored that side..

I have gotten a little work with this guy Andre, helping restore a fence
around the Camperdown tennis court. He is a great guy, really talented
artist as well. He creates these intricate, beautiful pieces using beads,
glass paint and melted metals on glass sheets.. I will post pictures
soon.

We had a great discussion the other day about his growing up during Apartheid.
I already knew and had heard from plenty of people, that not all white
people were just peachy during those years..in fact most people that were
anything below govt/ police were not incredibly satisfied. Obviously, the white
people did not deal with police beatings as often, brutal investigations into
all political activity (although some did), relocation and deep segregation in all
areas of life...
But..
whites still had very little vote/opinion in what direction the country went.
they had very few rights and were watched closely by the state..for their
own good of course...
Plenty were below the poverty line and literacy was not at a high..
Television was not legalised and available until 1972 (for the general
population of whites) because the government feared the people
would learn too much and be swayed. Even then, as Andre explained,
they were only given one hour a night, of pathetic imported family crap
as he called it..dubbed from old Swedish shows.. then it expanded to
three hours and so on and so forth.. all remaining very white laced
sugar coated junk, with tid bits of propaganda boosting the image
of the National Party.

Hoping to work a bit today with Andre, creating a sign out of metal for
this local farm..
I will have photos soon. Until then..
take care.

Josh: please change my email for your blog to mkato2eq@yahoo.com and add the mum's: kathy-flynn@sbcglobal.net. She is having a blast reading all of your blogs and we have weekly discussions regarding your adventures. I trust things will work out well for you eventually. Let me know if you want me to rattle the cages of the folks that invited you to come and then didn't produce a place for you to live, a room for your classes and money for those computers! If they didn't have it all together, then why on God's green earth would they have you venture that far away from home with nothing to offer you when you got there!? I'm sad! really more perturbed, than anything. The upside is that you are alive and safe and well. I'm quite certain you are one of the most resourceful people I know, so I am sure you will continue to thrive. But you have to know that we all worry about you! And if you decide to come home, don't hesitate to say so...we will make the arrangements to make it happen! kisses! mk
