So it was a long journey to Tromso. We got a ferry from Tallin to Helsinki, then the bus to the airport, then a flight to Oslo, and from there another flight to Tromso. Finally we arrived at the little apartment we had booked for ourselves and it was so lovely.

The weather was a bit colder than we had been used to, being in the Arctic Circle and all that. It was snowing on the mountains nearby and rained every day we were there, but we still managed to have a great time all the same.We spent the week wandering around Tromso, and it was so good to have our own kitchen again. We ate very well for the few days cooking all types of healthy meals and Garry even tried his hand at making pizza bases.

We tried to chase the northern lights. It was cloudy and rainy in Tromso, so we had to drive an hour and a half away to get away from the clouds. We got a small glimpse of them in the distance, a greeny coloured curtain of lights in the sky. Unfortunately it didn't really come out in the photos but we'd love to go back and see them properly some time. We've been told February is the best time.

There is also a brewery up here in Tromso for a beer called Mack. We of course made it a priority to try this local beer. They claim due to the purity of the local water that their beer is the best in Norway. We don't know about that but it was still a good beer and the bar was pretty cool.

After our few nights in Tromso we had to say goodbye to our lovely apartment and get on the Hurtigruten ferry boat. We were taking a 3 night 2 day trip down through the fjords to a place called Trondheim. When we got on the boat, we were amazed at how big it was. It's like a hotel on water. We were so excited checking out the room and the rest of the boat. It had a panorama room, a restaurant, a cafe, a bar, a jacuzzi out back, a gym and sauna. Absolutely spoilt! We had a bit of a rocky night where the elevators stopped working and we were told not to move around too much but we couldn't help check out the size of these waves that could move this massive boat. They were obviously equally massive, fantastic!

You also get the opportunity to get off the boat as it goes down through the fjords. We stopped at a place that had an ice bar so we went to see what it was all about. Similar enough to Sydneys ice bar but on a much bigger scale and some stranger exhibits that are supposed to depict winter life in Norway. It was well worth the stop.

After viewing these amazing fjords we got the train to Oslo, which is a scenic journey in itself, and stayed a night there waiting for our flight to London. We didn't have much time in Oslo and spent a lot of it searching for a room less than a million dollars - Oslo is a very expensive place. So we tried to get some rest in for our early morning fight.

We stopped off in London briefly for a night trying to get ourselves prepared for our African Safari.
