August, 24 - September, 1

Taking a holiday from our holiday we headed to Fiji for a much-needed week of doing nothing but sunbathing.

The flight from LA involved some kind of time travel as we left on August 22 and landed in Fiji on August 24 even though the journey was only ten hours. I couldn't spend too long thinking about this because it made my head hurt.

We arrived at Nadi airport two hours before the buses start running so by the time we did get to The Beachouse we were ready to drop. The location was pretty much perfect. The resort was right on the beach which was like something out of a Bounty advert. Fine white sand and an endless ocean of countless shades of blue. We had splashed out on our own room which was huge but also home to a few geckos which came out at night. Not so good. Also at night there would be loads of frogs hopping around outside which made dashes to the loo a bit of a mission.

For a week our routine consisted of getting up for free breakfast by the pool and then deciding where to sunbathe. Then at 3pm we would wander over for free afternoon tea of scones and jam and decide what to have for dinner. This wasn't too tricky as there were usually only three options to choose from so we didn't really need to think too much at all. It was completely relaxing.

We did break our routine one day to go for a horse ride. We had seen the horses going out for a gentle stroll along the beach and as I had never been on a horse before thought this would be an easy first time. I'm still not quite sure how the gentle beach stroll turned into a terrifying trek up and down steep rainforest hills and over rocks in the sea. All I wanted was a picture of me on a horse with a sunny beach in the background. I ended up with frayed nerves and very sore thighs. To help ease the aches I splashed out a whole £6 on an hour long full body massage which was heavenly.

After a week at the Beachouse we were both very relaxed and tanned and were ready for our next country - New Zealand.
