Day 3: August 19, 2009

Woke up, talked to mom a lot, Chris a little bit.

Went to the DK House welcome party; ate good curry. Talked with a lot of people, made some new friends. A bunch of us decided we were gonna go get cell phones and another group decided they wanted to go to Ikebukura so we all left together. The cell phone shop was closed (it’s Silver Week apparently) so we went to Ikebukura with everyone else to see if we would have better luck.

Went to Ikebukura, and there was a cell phone shop there, but it turns out that you can only buy cell phones with a one year contract, and I’m only gonna be here for a little over 4 months. So I’m gonna go look for a prepaid cell phone later, perhaps in Akihabara. The people who were gonna go ahead and get cell phones had to stay at the shop for a long time, so a few of us decided to go see Shibuya for a while.

On our way to go get food, Jo and John got stopped by model recruiters. John seemed really happy with it, Jo looked a bit uncomfortable. It was funny. We ate ramen at this little underground shop. You had to go down this extremely small staircase to get to it, then put your money in a vending machine type-thing, choose what you want so that it prints the ticket you give to the chefs to make your food. It was quite good, but a lot of food, so I didn‘t finish it all.

Walked around and bought some slippers.

Went to an izakaya and got a few drinks. We debated on whether or not to do Karaoke, but we decided not to. We wanted to save our energy for Harajuku tomorrow.

Came back Warabi.

Went to 7-11 and 99yen shop.

Made plans for Akihabara tomorrow, and went to bed.

You can't see it very well because of my flash, but it's that huge crosswalk you always see. I'll try to get a better picture later.

A display they had in Shibuya. There were drummers and cymbal players there too.

September
I'm too lazy to figure out how to go back and change the dates I put in here, so just note that it's in fact September 19, 2009; not August.
