Today was set to be a long driving day. We first got up from the cool hotel and had breakfast, it wasn’t the best we’ve had but it was pretty good. We loaded up and headed into Orleans, the main attraction for Orleans was their cathedral. We found it, and walked through the cathedral. Lori is starting to think the same guy built all the cathedrals in Europe. Dad, they all look the same, yeah but it’s fun to walk through them and light a candle for someone you love.
Once we took some pictures, lighted candles and prayed for everyone we love we headed toward Vezelay. To gain some time, Lori asked if we could get on the Auto Strata. Yeah I should have known better when she asked, what’s the speed limit? Well in France the top speed is 120 KMH, Lori! Not 180, I kept looking over and kept an eye on the speedometer. She finally brought it within range. Chicks! They like driving fast.
As we approached Vezelay, you could see the cathedral up on the mountain top. It was truly beautiful; I wonder what the monks were thinking as they were making their pilgrimage to the
cathedral. We arrived in the town, park at the bottom and walk to the top. It was long but they had many cafes’ on my pilgrimage. I made it, whew. This cathedral is one of the oldest in France and is still being used today by monks. It is also know to have Mary Magdalene’s relics. When you first see it you notice it’s different, plain and simple. Not like the cathedrals we have seen earlier. Lori was touched by its simple form. When we walked into the crypt, the nuns and monks were kneeling and praying. Very sobering, we lit some candles. I am touched by the feeling of our prayers being heard. As we left Vezelay, Lori said she liked this cathedral the best, I agree.
Our next stop was Abbaye de Fontenay. It was just 30 kilometers down the road. Lori had no problem following the signs; I shut my eyes for a quick nap. We arrived and walked through the abbey, we thought Vezelay was plain; this cathedral has a dirt floor. Wow, these guys take their oath very serious. We finished walking thought the abbey, we didn’t see any monks, but I was looking.
We
loaded into the car and headed toward Dijon, it was just down the road. We drove around and found a hotel. Rooms were available so we checked in. Just like everyday Lori walks around checking out the neighborhood while I take a nap. I woke up after about an hour and Lori said she was hungry. We loaded into the car and headed downtown to find a restaurant. Lori parked the car and we were on foot to find dinner in the city center. We found the plaza and Lori was not disappointed, it was like a movie. The plaza was full of umbrellas and people eating, drinking and talking. The aroma alone was enough to keep us there. Soon however, Lori blurts out, hey old man I’m still hungry! are you going to stand there all night smelling this guys dinner. Hmmm, I guess we’ll eat here sorry, I hope I didn’t ruin your family’s meal.
Over dinner Lori kept picking and itching at a couple of red marks on her arms and shoulders. I questioned her and she said I think I got bitten by a bug or something. So she asks did you get bitten, no. When
do you think it happened, I don’t know. So half way through the meal Lori is becoming panicky, she thinks she has bed bug bites. Why is it that every woman in my life Kirsten, Bea and now Lori always get bit? Not me, just the women. Hmmmmm, I guess they are just sweeter.
We finished a great dinner and walked around for a short while before heading back to the hotel. As we walking toward the car Lori spotted a cute Owl plaque on the side walk, something to check out tomorrow.

Vezelay
Had I known you were going to Vezelay I would have insisted you eat Beouf Bourgignon at this rustic restaurant on the right coming down the hill from the cathedral!
