Volcano Trail Day 6: July 30, 2009
Playa Cuco, El Salvador

After driving through most of El Salvador and passing some awesome volcanoes, we arrived in the small beach town of Playa Cuco. Lonely Planet, says that the beaches in this area are not worth visiting. Well, I hope they keep writing this, because it is SO worth coming here. You have the entire beach to yourself, aside from a few locals pushing their fishing boats out and the vulture type birds eating fish. The water is warm and clean, and the waves are good enough for beginner surfers. Sun shines all day, with a small shower in the late afternoon. Paradise found! Shhh, don't tell Lonely Planet!
Playa Cuco was the perfect place to take it easy after a day of food poisoning. The outside of the hostel was amazing, including a small pool and palm trees. The inside however was not so appealing. A pipe ran out of the ceiling for a shower, no shower curtain, and the room was filled with flies, ants and other bugs. This is what I expected most of the accommodation to be like, but until now, has been surprisingly nice.

day in the ocean and chilling around the hostel as I was still recovering from the sickness.

Day 7:
Awoke early and took an hour walk on the beach - not a soul in site for miles. Feeling much better, Lisa and I had an 8am beer! Chilled poolside or ocean side all day, enjoying the sun, music and company of the tour group. After dinner the hostel owners put on a massive beach bon-fire to express their thanks for staying with them. Tomorrow is a 430am departure to Nicaragua, but we need to get through a 2 hour stretch of Honduras first...

Play el Cuco- San Miguel - El Salvador
Great Pictures, I am so happy that you ejoyed your time in El Cuco an El Salvador, thank you for your nice comments and pictures. Playa el Cuco is my favorite beach and I have been going there since childhood- I currently live in New Jersey but every time I go to El Salvador El cuco is my first destination after arriving to San Miguel. Next time you are in El Salvador there are 2 beaches nearby worth visiting, Playa las Flores and Playa La Ventana. You are right about Lonely Planet.... places like that are better kept secret.
