Two days ago we were still in Arkansas. On Thursday morning we left Hot Springs early and we were kind of glad to leave that sad little resort town. Today we had a long drive planned. It took us a while to get back to I-40, we had to cross the Ouachita Mountains. Once back on the interstate, we just drove west. We entered Oklahoma with its wide fields as far as the horizon. After passing Oklahoma City we crossed parts of the original Route 66. And for sure we had to drive the historic highway as well. By now it looks pretty much like any other highway, but you can still see the original gas stations, motels and diners along the way. In Oklahoma we also visited the Route 66 Museum. After that we jumped back into the car and drove on. When we entered Texas we stopped at the visitor center (which turned out to not even be the real visitor center), but that alone proofed that everything in Texas is bigger. For dinner we had planned to stop by the Big Texas Steakhouse in Amarillo, TX. We had seen on TV just a couple of days earlier that they serve a 72 oz steak, and if you can finish it in an hour, you get it for free. We wanted to see that place, but did not order that humungous steak. Since it was still early (around 8 pm) and we needed to make some more miles, we drove on till Santa Rosa, NM. There we stayed in a nice motel and fell asleep after 750 miles, 4 states and one time zone.

Route #66 Museum
Antje and Regi, I emailed you a link to the video I made of Cornel and Ann's trip on Route #66 last year; they also visited that Museum.
