G'day from Halls Creek

We arrived at Halls Creek yesterday afternoon and set up at the caravan park here. It's a bit dusty but then we don't expect grassed sites in these little towns. We had the night before at Fitzroy Crossing where there was lots of grass due to it being on the Fitzroy River.

Yesterday morning before leaving Fitzroy Crossing, we did the boat tour on the river to Geike Gorge. The scenery was spectacular, multi-coloured cliffs, many freshwater crocodiles and many birds. On the way to the river to get the tour, we passed three brolgas in a paddock and several wild brumbies. My camera was clicking all morning!

Then it was another long drive. One thing about driving the outback, the scenery is changing all the time, one minute it's flat with boab trees, large anthills, wattle trees lining the road and mauve flowers on the ground, next there are hills in the background and different sorts of trees. Properties aren't fenced out here so you also meet brahman cattle on the side of the road and sometimes on the road so it's a matter of deciding if that brown blob up ahead is an animal or an anthill.

We're having lovely hot days. We met a family from the Blue Mountains yesterday who were really feeling it and were amazed that we were loving it and that we follow the sun and avoid the cold. They can't wait to get back to the cold Blue Mountains winter!

Today we press on to Kununurra where we've booked into a caravan park for four nights. There is a lot of water there due to the Ord River and dam so it means green grass and washing the dusty motor home. There's dust inside and out so a good bit of house cleaning is the plan - luckily in a small motor home that doesn't take long!
