Greetings all!
As some of you may already know, Larry and I celebrated our 1-year anniversary on February 16th…which turned out to be quite a day to remember forever. That morning, we headed out to the Ginza area of Tokyo, where we had plans to walk through the Imperial Palace Gardens - a very historical and famous place here in Japan. Although these gardens were extremely beautiful, I didn’t want to stay very long. The weather was horrible and rainy, and with every step, we were getting colder and wetter….so naturally, I wanted to leave and find the nearest shopping mall! J But Larry was very persistent about seeing more of this famous garden, and so I grudgingly carried on. He also told me he had my anniversary gift with him and wanted to give it to me here….so naturally I wanted to stick around for that as well!
Finally we found a spot that suited Larry, and as he began to set up a video camera…I started to wonder why he was making such a big deal about giving me my anniversary gift. (I didn’t videotape him opening the gym bag I gave him earlier that morning)! Well,
it wasn’t until he was actually on one knee with a ring in his hand that I realized what was going on!!! I, of course, said YES!
The way he proposed was amazing…. For some reason, I have always dreamed of being proposed to on a beach with UB40’s “Baby I Love Your Way” playing in the background. Strange I know, but Larry remembered that I shared this with him one time and wanted to make my dreams a reality. He told me that the last year we have spent together has been a dream come true for him, and so now it was his turn to make mine come true. So, despite that it was February in Tokyo, he brought the beach to me! He first took out a framed picture of 2 lounge chairs on a tropical beach and placed that in front of me, and then took his I-Pod out of his pocket and started playing that song. Next, he got down on one knee…we both were crying….I wouldn’t have changed a single thing if I had planned it myself.
Afterwards we went to our hotel, the Park Hotel, to dump off all of our
stuff and relax for a bit. Once again I had another surprise waiting for me there…champagne, flowers on the bed, and a “Congratulations” card. It was all so very beautiful and romantic. Later we went out for a very nice (and expensive!) dinner at a place called Sorasio which overlooked Tokyo from the 46th floor. But our night wasn’t over after dinner….at midnight we had a masseuse come to our room for private massages. What a fabulous way to end a perfect day!
Since we are planning on living here in Tokyo for the next year, we won’t really be planning our wedding until we return home…although we are thinking about September of 2008. Until then, please know that you all are very near and dear in our hearts….and we know we will see you all at the wedding! J
Love,
Larry and Melanie

Holy Cannoli!
Congratulations!!!!! OMG, I am so excited. So happy for you both. I remember when Melanie had her second date with Larry right after we moved into Bedford Estate and said "I love my Guy" - literally. And I was like, whoa - those are heavy words for a second date. And then I think I saw her three more times at the apt. in the next 5 months b/she was always with LareBare! OK, that may be a slight exaggeration...slight. YAY! Congrats congrats congrats. I love you guys and couldn't be happier for you because in the words of Mariah "oh baby baby you belong together"!
