It’s the fourth of July and what better way to spend it than with the people you love ! The six of us slept sooooooo good last night ! We were completely exhausted from all the excitement yesterday but we were ready for a new day. Acadia National Park was calling our name ! The Bar Harbor KOA is a wonderful campground with great amenities and beautiful views of the Western Bay. We decided that we would head on up to the showers and get ready to explore. In the spirit of the fourth today, Lynn wore a red shirt, I wore a white shirt and Tim sported a blue shirt. I must say we were looking quite patriotic ! We packed up the motor home and headed out for Acadia National Park. On the way out of the campground, we stopped by the main office to put some postcards in the mail and get a couple of bags of ice. The lady at the desk suggested that we go down the road to a place called Kathy’s Breakfast & Chowda House for breakfast so we took her advice and made our way there. It was a nice little place and the food was really good. Heidi enjoyed her eggs benedict and Jason said his monte cristo was pretty good too. Lynn took a chance and went with the grits but she said they were actually good. Being in Maine and all, I went with the blueberry french toast with a side of bacon. It was delicious !! I’m thinking at this point, we’ve had blueberry soda pop and blueberry covered chocolate so why not stick with the blueberry theme. Heck, we even bought Porkchop some blueberry hot sauce at L.L. Bean yesterday ! Well our bellies were full and we were all set to make our way around Acadia. We decided to drive the park loop road and see what all we could find. It took us by the Frenchman Bay and on over to the entrance of Cadillac Mountain. There was a bridge we had to go under in order to continue our tour but Tim was afraid we were too high and we were not going to make it. Jason and Jonathan decided they thought we could get through with no problems so they volunteered to get out and guide us along. Jon ran out in front of the motor home as Jason climbed up the back and onto to the top to see how much room we had. Yes, the crazy boy got on top of the motor home ! This was a hoot ! Poor Tim, he was trying to watch Jon and follow his direction all the while trying not to throw Jason off yet he needed to focus on getting us under the bridge and to the other side. Well, with the boys guidance, we made it through just fine. This occurred every time we approached a bridge in the park today ! We eventually made it to Cadillac Mountain which is the park’s highest peak and the tallest mountain on the Atlantic coast north of Brazil. The views from atop the peak were panoramic and unparalleled. We spent some time there and then made our way on down the park loop road. We made a couple of stops in pull off areas and thankfully the fog started to lift so we were able to get a few good pictures. We were at one pull off and before we knew it, Jason and Jon had taken off and headed up the mountain together. They

were hiking around and trying to find that one perfect place to get that one perfect picture. They had roamed so far away from us we eventually had to pick them up on the other side ! Our next stop in Acadia was the sand beach. Tim couldn’t find a parking place so he just dropped us off at the entrance and then waited for us to call. We walked down a flight of cement steps and onto to coarse sand. How were we to know what a beautiful sight was waiting for us ? It is like a private beach out in the middle of the Caribbean somewhere. The waves were pounding the gorgeous rock formations as the wind was blowing through our hair. We made our way to the water and played around for a few minutes but it was really COLD !! After a short visit there we decided to call Tim and head on over to Thunder Hole. It was so nice getting curb side service from a handsome man but we were not allowed to get into the motor home until all the sand was gone ! Lynn got the broom out of the bathroom and “broomed” us all down. When we arrived at Thunder Hole, I stayed in the motor home this time and let Tim go down with everyone and check it out. They said it was really cool and it really did sound like thunder. It is a chasm along the shore which is a large partly submerged crevice with vertical granite walls. When the waves roll into it they are concentrated which then causes the thunder sounds and motions you can hear and feel. The five of them stayed down there for a bit and then returned to the motor home. We came upon another bridge so the boys had to get out and help Tim make it through. We decide to finish up the park loop road and make our way on into Bar Harbor. We passed by Otter Point and Wildwood Stables on the way out of the main park. As we are riding towards Bar Harbor, I hear Tim and the boys yell out, “it’s a turtle, it’s a turtle”, so of course we had to turn around and check it out. This was no small turtle but he was in the middle of the road and he needed to be saved. First, Jon attempted to pick up this big turtle and move him off to the side of the road. That really didn’t work so well because Mr. Turtle wasn’t having any part of that and he made sure Jon knew that by snapping at him with his huge mouth. Jon didn’t have any luck so Jason decided to take a stab at it. Well, it seems like this turtle just didn’t want to be saved because it snapped at Jason as well. The boys proceeded to guide the turtle off the road and into the woods but not before we all had a good laugh. Now I hope you can picture the six of us, standing in the middle of the road, chasing after this poor turtle, taking pictures and laughing our tales off when it tries to attack Jason and Jon ! Well the turtle was saved and it was time to head on down the road. Tim took us over to the beautiful town of Bar Harbor and found a great parking place. We parked and began to make our way up and down the streets until Lynn spotted a great lookin’ place for dinner. We were really tired from the day at Acadia so we went in and grabbed a seat and enjoyed a lovely dinner together. After dinner we made our way to the end of the street and got some pictures of the Bar Harbor Inn. We shopped here and there for souvenirs and on the way back to the RV we stopped by and got an ice cream cone for the road. Of course, in honor of Maine, I had to get the home made blueberry ! It was really crowded and had started to drizzle so we decided not to stay for the fireworks. Plus, the only thing Tim had asked of us all day was to be able to be back in time to watch the race. With that being said, we made our way back to the KOA and started setting up for the night. We stopped by the front desk and bought some firewood so we could build a fire and make smores. Jason and Jon decided to venture down to the fire pit and get us a big ole roaring fire going while Tim was enjoying the race. After a while and several attempts, I’m sad to report that they were not successful. It seems as though Lynn is the pyromaniac of the family because after only a few tries the fire was up and burning ! We broke out the graham crackers, marshmallows and Hershey’s chocolate bars and got started on the smores. They were kinda messy but boy were they good ! Just ask Heidi cause hers was so good it was all over her face ! Me, Tim, Lynn and Jason played a couple of games of Scrabble but we were interrupted during the second game to watch the dramatic end of the race. All I’m gonna say is Tony Stewart should be ashamed of himself !! We finished up our game, cleaned up a little and then got ready for bed. What a great day ! We got to enjoy a beautiful Fourth of July with our boys, Lynn and Heidi, we are truly so blessed. Tim finished off the night with a bedtime story about sheep and then we were all fast asleep. We’ll be up around six in the morning to take Jon to the airport in Bangor and then we’re off to Canada. I hope you had a wonderful Fourth of July and thank you to all who have served our country in the past and are currently serving for us now. God Bless America !
