Every time I think I won't be surprised anymore, I am surprised again. First of all, I realized that I left off something about the food in the last entry, which was kind of important, because of the title. When we were at Dierke's Lake, Cassia (Mona's daughter) came up with HOMEMADE Bear Claws!! They actually were some sort of donut twist covered in this amazing icing, and they were STILL WARM!! Oh my!! Loretta says she'll teach me to make them. I said absolutely NOT!! Those things alone are worth coming to Idaho for!
A little bit about Aunt Maida and this absolutely amazing family she has raised. She came to Twin Falls with her husband as a very young bride. She raised 16 children! All but 3 of those 16 live within 40 miles of each other here in Idaho. She has 73 grandchildren, 77 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren. So, there are 16 in her 5th generation!! Counting the ones that have “married into” the family, she has over 250 grandchildren!!! This family is unlike any that I have ever met! They are the kindest, most loving people. So far, I have met several of the “original 16,” and many of the generations below them. Every one of them are making an effort to be with us as much as possible during the week. We just ask where we are to be. When we got here, NO ONE expected us until the next day, and they had had quite a day, with Aunt Maida being admitted to the hospital, yet, there was enough food to feed an army, and there probably 30 family members visiting with us for hours, as if that was absolutely the most important thing for them to do! Then, this morning, most of them were working, but all of the ones that were off were with us for breakfast and for visiting afterward. Liz then dropped everything to take us to the falls, where more of the grandchildren met us there and played and fed us, etc.! Then we went back to Ileta's house. Billie (Original 16 #1 who lives in Colorado) had Vicky (#4 or 5 I think)who owns a restaurant to cater dinner - YUM!! It started as a slow trickle of family coming in. I finally got to meet Trina, who has become one of my great Facebook Friends!! As the evening went on, family poured in. Kids were everywhere! Finally, there were some girls for Josie. Summer brought her 5 nieces, and Josie was so excited! She actually went home with Rhonda and all the little girls to spend the night! We sat around in the yard and they sang and told stories and made fun of my accent for hours! I didn't know people did stuff like this anymore. It was like a dream! Jeff has written 2 songs that he sang for us. He should have them recorded!! One was Sweet 16, that he wrote for his mom (16 children - 16 candles) and the other he wrote when his son in law went to Iraq. Wow!! It would be at the top of the charts!! Anyway, it was amazing, and when I came home, I was too tired to write all of this, so I did some and am finishing it this morning. We are heading out now to have breakfast at Vicky's restaurant, and then I am not sure what the rest of the day holds. This afternoon, we will meet at Linda's (Trina's mom aka #8), for a taco dinner!! See you soon!
