Memphis: Elvis lives! Mt. Vernon, The Biltmore and now Graceland! Actually it's an interesting 1970's time capsule. The house, while compared to today's McMansions is actually very modest it provides insight into Elvis's values and the fact that he bought it when only he was 22 and always called it home. As did his mom and dad and grandmother, Minny Mae who outlived them all. You cannot come to Memphis and not tour Graceland.
We tour Memphis on the downtown trolley. A local resident gives a thorough commentary of the city with a personal perspective.
Downtown Memphis and Beale Street. The temperature is just over 100 degrees. Luckily we stumble upon the trolley that takes your around the city to the riverfront and back. The sights include the Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King was assassinated and which is now a civil rights museum, St. Jude's Hospital with Danny Thomas' gold dome tomb, the city slave auction block, and according to our unofficial guide Dr. Phil's house. Next stop Beale Street which is blocked off from traffic and very busy. Once again so many bars and great music to choose from and so little time. Just before I collapse from
heat exhaustion we cool off with great gumbo, live music and cold beer (well actually water for me.) Needing a change from BBQ a local couple directs us to a great restaurant and micro brewery, Bosco's.

Inaccuracies
I am glad you all enjoyed your visit. It is Beale Street, not Beal. The stone platform was placed there as a monument by the DAR and has no proven connection to a slave auction block. There was a slave market on Adams and Main Street. The pictures of slaves cells is also inaccurate. That is the site of an old jail and then the animal impoundment facility.
