We're coming to the end of our Madrid trip, and are headin out for the airport in about 6 hours. The irony of this is that we decided to go ahead and stay in tonight as opposed to going out with a few of Tim's friends to give ourselves a nice 'easy' night, but at this point our sleep schedules are so out of whack that I'll be lucky to get in 4 hours tonight. Fortunately for me, I have mastered the art of sleeping on an airplane.

Madrid has been a very extreme mixture of easy-going and exhausting. It's been great staying with a friend, as we dont' have to worry about unpacking and repacking every day. Although it does look like a small tornado of all things women have hit this small apartment. I think Tim will be happy to get some of his space back.

After our day of sightseeing, we stayed in and had some calimocho, but as always time got away from us and before we knew it 3am rolled around and we finally decided it was a good idea to hit the hay. The next day we did more sightseeing and shopping in Madrid, and I think I can safely say that we have been to at least 3/4 of the shoe stores in this city. I was merely along for the ride, as I don't think a nice new pair of heels will travel too well to Africa, but the girls got some nice things. Then we met some of Tim's friends and hung out in Retiro Park outside of the Museo del Prado and enjoyed some tapas at El Tigre. At this point, I felt like we were kind of hitting a 'wall' and the late nights and busy days of walking were catching up to us, but let me tell you we certainly managed to push through it last night. Tim's roommate, Jose, invited some of his friends over here from University (mostly computer engineering students). We all sat and chatted for a long while, speaking a nice variety of Spanglish, and then they politely informed us that it is normal in Madrid to go out at about 2am. I think they all saw the shock in our face, but were not letting us off the hook. Sure enough, at about 2am the whole group decided to head into the city to go to this swanky night club called Kapital. Probably one of the most ridiculous places I've ever been. It was seven floors, and each floor had a different genre of music playing, from techno to reggae to rap to salsa. By the time we left the sun was rising and it was time for breakfast. I don't think I've ever stayed up that late in my life!! Nonetheless, we came home, slept a while, and Katie and I were up and ready at 11:30 this morning.

Today was pretty relaxed, as the exhaustion is becoming overwhelming. We did go to the Museo del Prado, a very famous art museum, as well as the Reina del Sofia, a modern art museum, and finally walked ourselves into a daze home. We've just been relaxing and firming up our Rome plans tonight, and we head out in just a few hours. Rome tomorrow, then Cinque Terra the next two days, then Rome another 2 days. I'll do my best to keep everyone updated in Rome and Cinque Terra, but I'm not sure what our internet access will be like when we go to Cinque Terra, so please have no worries if you don't hear from me for a bit. I miss you all!

hahaha
So I def. just laughed out loud literally at your comments about the night club. All I could picture was us doing some sort of rendition of Spice Girl moves to techno only to go down a level and Salsa haha. How funny!
