Day 114

We got collected from our hotel at 9.30am prompt and taken to the ferry port for our transport to the island of Koh Tao. We were surprised that everything was on time and went to plan today as we didn't have much hope following the disappointment with the journey time to Koh Samui.

The journey was easy and painless and we arrived into Koh Tao early afternoon. Koh Tao is another island on the east coast of Thailand and is popular for scuba diving. We are staying here for 6 nights as Oli is booked to do his Open Water Dive Course for 4 days. We have been looking forward to it as it is the longest we have stayed in one place since Perthback in March.

A tuk tuk taxi collected us from the port and took us the short journey to the Big Blue Dive Resort in Sairee Village. The friendly staff welcomed us and informed us of what to expect for the next few days and then took us to our accommodation. Our accommodation is good although not what we have been used to over the last week or so, unfortunately we have high expectations now.

The beach here is beautiful and the scenery fabulous so we went for a late swim in the sea before the sun set. The sea is amazingly warm, very shallow and above all relaxing. In the evening we ate in a Thai restaurant which served great food at great prices. It is a very laid back place so we enjoyed chilling out having a drink on beanbags next to the beach in a candlelit bar before going to bed.

21/5 - 25/5

We enjoyed 5 days in Sairee in total and it felt like a holiday. Oliver spent 4 days diving and passed his Open Water Dive Course. I chilled out on the beach most days although I did manage to go with Oli and his group on the last day and did some snorkelling and took some photos.

It was a great place to stay as it is so chilled out and the weather is really hot. We had the odd rain storm most days but it did not spoil anything. The food is great value, the beer is cheap and people at Big Blue Diving are really friendly so we enjoyed drinking at their beach bar.

On the last day when Oli had finished his course we hired a quad bike and toured the island. The island only measures 22 square kilometres so it didn't take us long! There is one main road north to south but most roads leading off that are dirt tracks which we explored, we were glad we had not hired a scooter. We found a quiet bay and enjoyed a couple of hours snorkelling as it was too hot to sunbathe.

Koh Tao is a great place for a holiday and we would love to come back.
