We had breakfast at the hotel and reviewed our plans for today. We decided to hop on the Autostrada and make good time going to Verona. We drove through the Po Valley and it was flat and lots of fields of stuff growing. No Roman ruins that I could see. We made it to Verona before lunch parked the car and headed off to the arena. Verona’s Arena is the third largest and is the only one that is still being used today. It was very impressive. We walked through the tunnels where slaves and gladiators once stood, sat in the stands and once we conquered the lions, we were ready for lunch. I was hungry, so we set of to the Piazza Erbe (is named after the Herb market that was held there for over 2000 years). The fountain looked good but we didn’t see any cafés that interested us. So we were off the see the Church of St. Zeno , this is a church that still that still operates with monks, you know the guys wearing the cool brown robes and sandals, I just have to get me one of those outfits. Ok, we get there and it’s
closed until 1 PM, we see a nice café where it looks like all the regulars are so we decide to eat there. Kirsten goes in to order she doesn’t come out for 5 -7 minutes. She finally comes out she looks like she happy but with a grin on her face. She tells me there’s no menu so when she tried to order the people behind the counter looked at her and said “Whata doya wanta toa eata?”. Kirsten started pointing and they nodded, Si. Lunch was GREAT….. While we were finishing our lunch we heard this load roar coming our way. It turns out to be 6 red Ferrari roadsters come into the Piazza and park next to each other. Oh yeah, everyone’s head turned along with mine. It sounded like I was at the Daytona 500. Once everyone and myself finished staring, it was time to go into the Duomo. The Duomo is in the top five I’ve ever seen. Too much to type to I’ll have to share the photos with you.
We made our way back to the car and headed north toward Trento. Again, I have to thank Carl for the driving tours
of Italy, it has been a great source of information. As we headed north, we kept finding only bed and breakfast type of hotels not the Agrotoursim hotels we found in Piedmont. Well we finally found one and we drove up the driveway. The gate was closed and we were ready to just cry, all of the sudden the sky open and the sun shined and the gate began to open. I felt a cold shiver go up my back. As we drove through the gate, a young woman was walking toward us with two small kids. It was Mandy with Mark and Caroline but in Italy.
I got out of the car and asked if she had any rooms, Si.
I’ll take it, Si.
Whatsa yous namea?
Steve.
Si.
She walks away and motions for us to follow. Ok, let me tell you, No I’m going to save this story for when I get home to tell you. No one will believe me if I just write it. Ok, here is one tidbit, we have tried to call Bea multiple time the recording comes on and says “sorry not able to process the
call”, except it’s in Italian. Whenever we are within our B&B compound the phone works, don’t believe me ask Bea. The owner Lara, sent us to her favorite restaurant and we had a perfect meal. We came back updated the blog called Bea, and settled in for a great night sleep.
This place reminds us of the Beringer Winery estate.
