Can’t believe we are home - so much has happened over the last 4 months and what a 4 months it has been!! Its so difficult to know how to tell you all how much we have enjoyed it - hopefully you have picked this up from our Blogs!

It has been lovely to see our family and friends again - and to see our 2 gorgeous granddaughters, Molly and Ellie, running towards us at Heathrow was the best thing ever.

We have had the most fantastic time - we have seen and experienced so much. We have seen such amazing wildlife and it is such a privilege to see them in their own natural surroundings and the creatures allowing us to get up close and personal. Another overriding memory for us of the whole trip is the trees - huge, immense trees - from the Tree Ferns and the Kauris in New Zealand to the Palm Trees and the Gum Trees with their beautiful coloured barks in Australia. And what about the aquamarine seas, lakes and rivers - the deserted beaches with pure white sand - it can’t get better!

And what about our campervan - we loved it! - the excitement of setting off each day, down unknown roads, not knowing what we would be seeing - and what wonderful roads - narrow, windy and steep, or long and dead straight, tarmac or dirt - and best of all empty, so little traffic. (I’m trying to get out of the habit of taking my camera and binoculars with me each time I get out of the car!). Every day became the start of a new adventure, not knowing what was around the next bend - although the next bend might not be for 20 or 30 km!!

Another huge part of the whole trip and travelling has been the random encounters, be it people or places. A lot of places were found because of “word of mouth”, people sharing with us some great places to visit (not ones in the guide books or on the tourist trail). We have met some really wonderful people along the way - contacts have been exchanged many times so it will be no surprise to have fellow travellers turning up at some time in the future which will be great.

We don’t know where to start or stop reliving our time ‘down under’ - we have hundreds (thousands!) of photos to sort and eventually hope to get them on to a DVD so family and friends can browse through them at their leisure.

We appreciated so much all the good wishes, messages, texts, emails etc from everyone - thank you all. And a really big THANK YOU to all our family and friends who helped and supported us so much which enabled us to make this trip and kept things running smoothly at home whilst we were away.

One of the aspects of being away is the appreciation of home - UK is a beautiful country and we are so particularly fortunate to live where we do - we have never taken it for granted and it’s a great place to come back to but we will miss the space and the lack of traffic. Will we go again? We are already talking about saving up our old-age. pension. We saw a lot but there was so much we missed - there are so many places we would like to revisit - yes, hopefully we will be able to go again at some point.

Well, it really is time to sign off now - thank you all for sharing our Blogs - here is a random selection of photos (some you may already have seen) to give a flavour of our ‘Big Trip’.
Our love to you all
Lyn & Tony xx
