We left about 9:30 and drove from Holland through Belgium. We stopped at the 1958 World's Fair site - took pix. Belgium is very interesting. Ate veal for lunch…drove to war memorial in Bastogne- very nice- talked to school kids and took pix. Drove through lovely fields etc, to Luxemburg Staying in Holiday Inn. Lux is very interesting...Old town low between two high walls used as fortresses in past. Off for Boppard...cruise on Rhine tomorrow.

Left Rotterdam at 9:30 am. The land changed from low flat land, few trees to hilly areas with beautiful landscape. Fields of brussel sprouts everywhere. Stopped outside of Brussels where World Fair held in 1958. Big module & beautiful area. Had wine in terrace café. Went on to Brussels - very large city. Had lunch there and shopped. Saw beautiful guild square. Went to House where Belgium linen is made. Very nice and prices good. People on tour very nice.

Went from Brussels to Bastogne, where so many American soldiers died

Made in Brussels, we think this is King Leopold's Palace. We passed some of the spots too fast and so many sites we could not remember them all.
in World War II. A huge monument is there in their memory. Many other memorials of the war there also. Traveled on with another stop in Belgium and then finally arrived in Luxemburg late. This county & the city are situated on mountain going down in valley and up again. It was very beautiful. Arrived at 8:00 pm and after dinner (good) had a swim in the in-door pool (Holiday Inn). So far all rooms have been nice and very European. However, Holiday Inn had ice, Kleenex and ash trays. Seems a lot of American teen-agers go to school in area and come here to swing!

Gilded front buildings in Brussels. All these buildings were restored after World War II. We were told the damage was extensive.

One of the many magnificent gardens found in all parts of the city of Brussels. Belgium is truly a beautiful country with very courteous people.

Le Grand Place
I do love the Grand Place in Brussels. 25 years after these photos were taken you will find me here drinking great Belgian Ale while meeting new friends from around the world. And that was 10 years ago. Man, this time travel stuff gets confusing. I spent two nights hanging out at the cafe in the upper corner that had the big swan over it.
