The rehab hospital
View from the park English During an in inpatient rehabilitation, you are quite busy, believe me.
Last week, I wrote that I had arrived in a rehab hospital in the town of Bad Urach, not far from Stuttgart. I saw the doctor, she talked to me and she examined me, and then she decided what therapies I would do during the next three weeks.
But the therapies didn't start until Monday, so I had time to relax a little bit and have a look around. So on Saturday morning, I walked into town, around town and back, which was about 6 km altogether. I didn't even feel that sore after my trip. In the afternoon, I went to a very nice thermal bath that is just a few minutes away from my rehab hospital to relax a little bit. Sunday morning, I did even better: I walked to a nearby waterfall, again about 6 km altogether, but including some very steep steps leading up towards the waterfall. When I arrived there, I felt fit enough to keep going, but I didn't want to overdo it, so I walked back. In the afternoon, my mum came to visit me, and we had a

As I wrote before, rehab days are pretty busy. Usually, you have around three therapies in the morning and three more in the afternoon. And you have the opportunity to exercise for yourself, too. My therapies are:
* Physiotherapy: We do exercises especially for the muscles in my pelvis and legs and exercises for coordination.
* Gym: I do some warming up on a stationary bike and then do exercises for my legs, bum, and back, with weights.
* Nordic walking: We walk in a group, for about one hour. I hadn't done that before and had always considered it a bit silly, but I must confess that I enjoy it quite a bit! At the reception, you can borrow nordic walking sticks, so that's what I did. The trainer doesn't take us every day, so when there is no official nordic walking, I go by myself.
* Exercises in the pool: We do some exercises to strengthen the muscles in our legs and back, supervised by a physiotherapist.
*

* Magnetic therapy: I have to lie down on a blanket that builds up a magnetic field. That is supposed to help the bones mend.
* Massage: The muscles in my legs are very sore, so a massage is pretty relaxing.
The doctor comes to see me twice a week. She was pretty happy with my flexibility, said that the pelvis was straight and that I was in good shape. The only thing that is not too good is that my body is still struggling with all the painkillers I had to take. That turned out when they analyzed my blood.
All the patients here have breakfast, lunch and dinner in two big dining rooms. The food isn't too bad. When I have free time, I try and do some work, not much, but some things just have to be done. And I read a lot. All the therapists and everybody else who works here is just lovely, and so are most of the other patients. Of course, everybody has a story to tell. But that's something to tell

I had to climb a lot of steps to get there.
