Hello again to my readers - I hope you are all receiving my news as I haven't had too much response back.

Things here have been very exciting. The weather is 26 deg. and a little too warm for walking around, but I am taking advantage of being here and doing my best, even though my feet are like balloons and quite painful!

Yesterday Ian took me to the Pearl Tower (Joanna was at school) and what an amazing feat of engineering that is. We went almost to the top and Ian even persuaded me to venture on to the glass floor, I think I need a medal as it was very high and the view was just amazing. The whole building was sparkling (literally) clean and the shops and the restaurants on the ground floor very good. After we left the Pearl Tower we walked down one of the main streets in Shanghai with normal shops (not markets) and eventually had a coffee in Starbucks! We travelled on the Metro to get to the Pearl Tower and unlike our Underground this also was very clean.

I only have 4 days left in Shanghai and I can't believe the time has flown by so quickly. I shall be sorry to leave now as everybody has made me so welcome here. This afternoon I went to William's Kindergarten again, after a very nice lunch with Ian, and one of the little boys greeted me with "Hello Nanny"! I sat in on William's afternoon snack time (a sort of rice soup and spring rolls) served by the lady in the chef's hat, apron and mask. Then they were having a craft lesson which they all got completely engrossed in. They had also made paper carnations for their Mothers as Sunday is Mothers' Day here. After the lessons, it was time for William to have his weekly Karate lesson so I was allowed to go in and watch. The teacher was a Black Belt and spoke very fast in Korean or Japanese or something(!) and I wasn't sure that all the children (under 5) understood him However, they certainly understood the commands and to see 10 little people all doing Karate moves and loving it was amazing. William is very keen and enjoyed it very much. They all wore their Karate jackets and trousers and again, to see all this in miniature was lovely.

Tomorrow I am going back to William's school for a special Mother's Day Make and Do! Not sure what I'm in for, but it will be my last visit so am looking forward to it. On Saturday we are going back to the Fabric Market to collect the things we've ordered and Sunday we are out for a special Mother's Day lunch.

I will be in touch when I'm back but I really am glad I made the effort to get here and have this wonderful experience.

Love to all
Anne x
