GdaY folks and welcome back. I do apologise for the lack of 'blogging' but it has been a manic couple weeks, sorry to make y'all jealous.....
So last time we spoke I was still picking apples and livin in the Garra abbatoir. I did that for another couple of weeks while it continued to get colder, even more miserable, longer shifts without any change in pay and cos i was the end of the season the hostel was emptying. anywho, one Saturday night while we were playing cards n downin goon, we were met with the cry 'OMG, You will not believe what is goin on outside.' So 15 girls run to the window to see a gorilla, bunny, kangaroo and the lead singer from Kiss, dancing around the car park. Turns out they were visiting soldiers (in costume), in town for a night and inviting us down to the pub for some karaoke and a sing-song.
The next day, feeling slightly worse for wear, we were greeted by the boys in THE dodgiest minivan ever who, armed with a full esky, to take us to the local beauty spot, The Dam. a lovely sunny afternoon n a few beers, oh and a few shots (see pics) and we were feeling good again. Turns out the guys were quite apalled at our living arrangements as was the landlady of the 'bad' pub in town and offered us a lift back to Brissie that night. So I packed in a bit of a rush and was on the road an hour later.........
So Mik n Richo, have kindly put me, my brother, cousin and another (Brummie) apple picker up for the week. It's also been anzac day over here, a massive day for the army where I've had the best view. :D
Got to see the boys march in a special service for a private college, then sent the day on base, starting with the dawn parade accompanied by a gunfire brekkie (Bundy rum in coffee) then moving onto the bar and later the local RSL club. Excellent day, met some great soldiers past and present and I participated in Two Up, a game only legal on anzac day.
Mik also lent us a car for the day so that we could drive up to Steve Irwin's austrlia zoo. awesome place, definitely recommended. Unfortunately the car had a dodgy battery, meaning we needed to jump start it everytime, oh and it made some very strange noises, although Ross' screaming did drown that out a bit.....
We also took the opportunity while here to go visit the backpacker-famous Surfers Paradise, just an hour South. The hostel/motel was a bit of a dive, but in a great location. We got mum's Hard Rock Cafe bear, some good food and took a trip to the theme park Dreamworld. Now that was a fun day, if not slightly childish. I even managed a couple rollercoasters without puking....
So we're now back in Brissie for a couple days to meet up with the other Scottish gals before we move North in pursuit of sun and work...... Oh and Mik took me and Ross up Mount Coot-th this morning for an ice-cream, and the best view in Brisbane.
