First trip out of Rome, done.
Second trip, coming at you soon.

We started out the trip leaving Rome at about 8:00 in the morning, headed to Pompeii. It took about 3 hours to get there by bus. Pompeii was really cool and it was even better when we got the chance to walk around alone for a while. You really got the since of how it was there in 79 AD when Vesuvius blew. There were a lot of buildings completely intact, some that were ruins, and some that had been restored. Beautiful surroundings of Mount Vesuvius and other hills only heightened the atmosphere. A bunch of students were planning on going out in smaller groups all over southern Italy. Some went to Capri, some went to Sardinia, while Trey, Emily, Erica, and my self went to Naples. Italy's third largest city, and maybe its dirtiest. A lot of people have a fear of Naples because of its crime, but it had some of the nicest people. We walked along the coast on Friday night after checking in at the hostel. We saw a lot of fireworks from the various islands that are visible from where we were. That morning we toured some of the monuments around the city and then we went to one of the coolest things I have ever seen. The Catacombs. The city, like Rome, was a very old city and had many layers. The Catacombs are the first layer of the Greek and Roman city that were first built. When the city grew, the "underground" was created. It was inhabited by the homeless for a while but they could never survive down there because of the temperature. We took the English speaking tour 2:00 and we were the only people on the tour. It was incredible. We started back to Rome, tired, and ready to get home. But, before we left we stumbled across this little hole in the wall drink stand. There was this little old lady just a laughing and giving these people some kind of crazy drink. We were looking for some water and decided to try one of these drinks. She started out by squeezing to lemons into a cup, and then filled the rest of the cup with water. Finally she added some kind of white powder that made the drinks fizz up like crazy. You had to drink them in like three seconds. It was awesome. You could feel the fizzes in your belly. We also stumbled along a wine place that had taps of wine. We all got a liter of wine for the train back. The total price was 9 euros. They came in large water bottles that had been cleaned. Naples was a great town and I would recommend this place to anyone.

We loved the pictures, especially of Pompeii and their houses and molds of the dead people. We studied Pompeii and it is awesome to see actual pictures of it. We will keep up with you and we want more pictures and hey we are interested in the fizzy drink. What was the white powder? Will you see any part of the Olympics or are you too far away? Are you learning any of the Italian language? Have fun!!!
