• 7-8 Hvar
Rise and shine, it is time to find a smaller non connected chunk of land off the coast of Croatia. Oh yeah, its 730am, my “landlady” woke me up because she needed to keys to the place back… I would have discussed my dissatisfaction, but I do not believe she knew many other words in English other than “key”. I stuck it out anyway regardless of her taking the keys and headed towards the docks around 900am. I have not been on the internet or spoken with Camille in many days, so I stopped in a shop and spoke with her, and wrote a couple emails expressing my “aliveness”.
Step two ride the hour long ferry to Hvar and find somewhere to stay. The ferry wasn’t bad, with the exception to the lady behind me that had the black lung/ typhoid fever. Once I was off the ferry in Hvar, I met a very nice lady that took me to her place to stay. I chose her place, because I had my own room, shower, and it was close to the water for cheap. She was very nice and the room was nicer then the place
Hvar
First impression in Split, plus she gave me juice… from concentrate!! She pointed me in the direction of town, store, and beaches, and told me where to go out later at night.
Onto the beach… well mostly rocks, but it was still nice. I laid in a chair until I was kicked out of it for not paying. I actually saw a group of girls from Split and spoke with them for an hour or so, but they were catching the next ferry off the island. With no one to talk to, I decided to walk up to the castle. The path seemed to be much longer then it should be, so I decided to make my own path through the brush and trees. This was a great idea, I was flying up the side and passing people quickly until I basically got to the castle wall and realized I couldn’t get in. Another 15 mins of walking I found the correct entrance that opened and was able to enjoy the castle views like a postcard. The view was excellent; especially the Pakleni Islands off the coast were a fantastic sight. The castle had the norms, dungeon, cannons, outside bar/ restaurant
Hvar - from my room
after following a old lady up a hill, this is where i stayed for a few days that was now closed. However I did decide to take a more traveled path down through the streets and neighborhoods of Hvar. I basically walked through peoples backyards; it was very real compared to many paths that are very commercialized throughout Europe. After I worked up a summer sweat, I dove straight into the perfect temperature water and met the most beautiful topless woman I have ever seen. On a scale of 1 to 10 she was the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. She lived on the island and I mustered up some bravery to attempt to hang out with her later, but of course she had a boyfriend or at least told me that. Don’t get me wrong, I was looking for people to hang out with, not steal or displace relationships, so oh well. Back to the room, showered (no curtain again), had some dinner in town, and tried to go out… but it was a failing effort, for no one seemed to want to party. I must have walked around the area 10 times and passed by the same people 10 times, it’s like no one knew what to do. Therefore, I went back to
Hvar beach
A good place to lay around and do nothing the uncomfortably hot room for the night.
Day 23 on my trip and staying in bed until 10am was absolutely amazing. However this is the longest solo trip that I have ever done and it has begun to be a bit lonely. It hasn’t been very easy finding people hang out with, normally I am that social butterfly that meets and greets anything that breaths.
• 7-9 Hvar (day 23)
Oh well on to sending postcards to the mother, whom always appreciates it. Then I pretty much just sat around for a while, I was in way to much sun the few days before, so I sat on a ledge next to a b-e-a utiful lady that didn’t speak a lick of English. Solving my loneliness partially I ran into a few French chicks and walked around with them for a while and grabbed a bite to eat with them. After that meal, it seemed like a good time for a swim… ahah… yeah I did. Then back to the flat rock that formed wonderfully to my body for a nap. Nevertheless I did wake up to a really dirty white bathing suit staring me in the
face… that is what you get for sitting on rocks. Well its basically time to “try” to find some bar buddies again, but I passed out in the room about 8pm and woke up around 3am… so see you in Brac tomorrow.
• 7-10 Brac
I was waiting for my ferry to leave Hvar and met this Australian kid that had been waiting for his friend to pick him up from the port for about 4 hours. I felt bad, but he was company that I was missing over the last few. We were parked ride in front of a huge yacht that came from the Cayman’s for a voyage around the world. An older very racist guy from ATL spoke with us for a while and I ended up being on the same ferry as him. He has been to round about 100 countries and was very interesting to speak with. I got off the boat at Brac… realizing I was one of about people to get off… comforting, this place sounds like fun. I actually ran into the English people from Zagreb and grabbed a bus to the city. The bus drivers had a sweet 70’s
hair cut, mustache, aviators, and a cig hanging out of his mouth… best part of the island. I found a nice place to stay, but the beach, chicas, and town, didn’t live up to Hvar. However the night life was… no better… lame.
• 7-11 brac - split
Personal opinion when travelling in a high speed vessel, you should not be passed by the average seagull. The ferry ride back to Split took forever!! I already had my ferry ticket bunch for Split to Pescara, Italia, so I found a nice spot in the shade and people watched for a couple hours. I had more conversations in that two hours then I did the entire time I was on the islands… unbelievable. I met a lesbian cannuck, a couple nice old people, some brits, and was on Croatia TV talking about our traveling. Never did see the final product and wonder if I made the news or a “haha stoopid America show”. Ferry time - where is everyone? Oh no one else wants to go to Pescara, Italy and the sea is really rough… and nearly almost everyone puked… including me almost getting puked on… welcome to Pescara…
Pakleni Islands
From the castle no hostel - 60 euro hotel is the cheapest thing!!! FANTASTIC!!!
