Mississippi River
Thats all I saw too We have new belts. It ended up costing less than we had expected ($228)...so thats good, right? Of course it is. I'm just happy we dicovered it when we did.
That whole day was interesting. First, the belts. That took us till 3pm. When we left, we drove about 20 miles when Adam noticed that we were running a little hotter than we were before. Awesome. Adam calls Doug down at Premier Auto Care in Pell City. He suggest that we return to the shop. So we head 20 mins back to Pell City. I really can't say that Pell City was a place on my list of places I'd like to spend a lot of time, but we did anyway.
We returned to Pell City at 4pm. Adam started talking shop (again) with the guys at Premier Auto care, and I decide to take Kalib for a walk. Adam, says, "forget the leash, he's fine." Ok. And he was, until a we reached the hole that was in the dirt under the fence. And he was off! And with that came my panic. I fell to the ground and under the fence like I was a pro. But it was

Where we pulled off to let the sunset alittle to late. Kalib had found what he was looking for. Horses. I new this, because all of a sudden there were horse running...frantically. Then came the dogs. Looked like German Sheppards. Kalibs made it over a hill, I can't see him. WONDERFUL. I decide to go get Adam. Kalib will listen to him. So i run back to the hole in the fence, and I can't fit through. How did I do it the first time? OH NO! I have to get Adam. So I stand on higher ground, where I can see the RV, and I start waving my arms and yelling. But the RV's running, so no one can hear me. Breath, Leah. I go back to the hole that I crawled out of...what a minute. Hmmm. Anyway, I went back to the whole and unstuck a cement block that was in the way, and made it through. I run over to the RV, yelling, like a crazy lady. Adam says. "Horses?" You knew!! So he comes runnin. What he didn't know, was that there was a hole under the fence (HA!) he fit threw just fine (thanks to me moving the cement block out of the way...Still

For my baby brother Carl don't know how I did it the first time). He yells, "Kalib COME!" and Kalib comes, just like that. No panic for anyone else. Adam laughed at me because I came runnin over like "Kalib. run. over. there. HURRY!" But, I thought it was an emergancy. I guess I would have laughed too if I could have seen me.
The RV's fine. Its probably just the gadge acting up. Oh good. After all of that. But, I'm glad we found out. So we leave to start our traveling day at 4:30pm.
We reached Birmingham a half hour later. From the outside, Birmingham looks run down and dirty, but I know a lot of cities look that way when passing by. I also know it is also rich in history. I mean, Birmingham, it was the center of the Civil Rights movement, that alone is something that I'd love to explore. The jail, where Martin Luther King wrote his famous Letter from a Birmingham jail. The spot where the church was bombed that killed 4 young black girls. I don't want to explore these places for touristy reason, but because I want to pay my respect and understand.

For my baby brother Carl We were almost out of Birmingham when our door flew open. Oops, I guess I forgot to lock it. I jump up, run to the door and shut it and try to lock it. Up, in and turn. Nothing. Ugh! UP LIFT AND TURN. Nothing again. Whats wrong? I've locked this door a million times before just fine. I just had to lift it up and in, and turn the knob. Wasn't working. Adams yelling at me, "LOCK THE DOOR." and I'm yelling back, "I'M TRYING!!!" He's annoyed that I can't lock the door, and so am I, but I WAS trying. He pulls off, at a seedy looking area, and at a red light, he gets up and locks the door. Just like that. AGAIN. What in the world am I doing wrong! Now Adams mad that I couldn't do something so simple, and I'm mad that he can't understand that I was trying. I said mean things (I got defensive). We both took a deep breath and we were fine. I bet I never forget to lock the door again.
That night we stayed at a Walmart parkinglot in Vicksburg,MS. Vicksburg is another place I'd love to
explore. All that happened there. I've always been fascinated by the Civil War. A few years ago I rented the entire Civil War series. It was all so sad. But the most I got to see of Vicksburg, was the Walmart. We'll do an exploration of the south another time. We asked the women working at Walmart where we might get the best view of Vicksburg. She said, "Vicksburg!? Theres nothin to see here but cottonfields." She also said we'd be able to pull of to take a picture of the Mississippi at "the bridge." She was wrong. I'm glad I snaped a photo going over it.
I was glad to see some swamp land driving though Lousianna, but thats all I saw. The only stop we made there was for gas in a small town named Rayville.
It started to rain leaving Lousianna and into Texas. It was really coming down, so we pulled over for a bit. We discovered leaks from pushing through the rain. We also discover our refridgerator isn't working. Everything in the freezer has just about thawed completley. Wonderful, there was only about 7 different meals in there. Awesome.
The rain stopped
as we reached Dallas. And in an instant the sun was out STRONG. It was pretty crazy. We had to pull over in Abilene, just on the side of the road, to let the sun set a little before driving any further. We drove until 1am and stopped in Midland, Texas at another Walmart.
The rest of the drive through Texas was fairly uneventful. Well fairly. We did loose our passenger side mirror. It must have happened when I got up to find a screwdriver to tighten our dash. Great.
We stopped in El paso to have dinner. We went to a place called the State Line for some BBQ. The place was busy. We had to wait 20 min, and it was only a little after 5. Thats always a good sign though. We were seated in the back of the restaurant at a cute table for two. I ordered the Pork Rib Combo. That came with Baby back ribs, homemade sausage, beefbrisket, coleslaw, potato salad, and baked beans. Adam ordered the 5 meat Sampler which came with all of the above plus, pepper turkey and a beef rib (we gave to bone to Kalib, he LOVED
it). The food was really good, and worth the wait. I actually ate just about everything off my plate plus a peice of bread. WHAT!? It was GOOD!!
There must have been something in the BBQ sauce because I couldn't kepp my eyes open. Even when Adam pulled over so we could look at the stars (which, were AMAZING-a million of them!)I couldn't keep them open. I passed out about 9pm. Adam drove until the effects of the BBQ hit him and he couldn't keep his eyes open. He pulled off in Separ in a huge dirtlot under a giant tattered billboard that read, "Great Divide Outpost." We woke up at 5:30. Adam let Kalib out to walk, and Kalib noticed the stars for the fist time. He sat with his head up, mesmerized for about 2 minutes.
We entered Arizona at 6:30am this morning. We stopped at a rest area for awhile when Adam saw rocks. He bouldered and I made breakfast. Right now we are in Pheonix (actually Glenndale)waiting for a friend of Adams to get done with work. We're going to shower and do some laundry here. Adams also going to find a new mirror,
Stateline BBQ
Kalib loved it too!! to replace the one that disappeared into thin air. We hope to make it to Joshua Tree tonite. We'll see. I hope I have internet service out there!!!
