If you love the arts, Valparaiso is the city for you. About two hours north west of Santiago, Valparaiso sits on the hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Filled with cobblestone streets and hidden alleyways painted with beautiful artwork it is a city like no other in Chile. Walking around here is like walking through an art gallery. No matter which direction you choose to go, you are bound to find original pieces at every corner.

The city here is not what I would have pictured to be a South American or let alone a Chilean city. It reminds me more of what Venice or France would feel like, not that I have ever been to those places. The hills are filled with boutiques ranging from clothes, jewelry, paintings and leather goods. At the bottom of the hill lining the water is the port. In the morning the streets there can be lined with fresh fish coming in from the sea. I ate the best seafood soup I have ever tasted here in Valporaiso.

I have been here six days and have enjoyed every minute of it. I came here just in time for the Valparaiso Cerro Abajo Competition. Mountain Bikers from throughout the world raced downhill through Valparaisos narrow winding streets. Filled with jumps, twists and turns, bikers raced as fast as they could to the bottom of the city.

Valparaiso is a city where you can kick back and relax for as long as you want without feeling pushed to do anything. It has a nightlife just about every night of the week with bars filled with an energy filled crowd. It has been one of my favorite cities here in Chile.
