Updates and Random Comments

For the last few days I have been focusing on the job search situation. I would love to keep spending my days visiting random spots around Dublin and the rest of Ireland but I need to take a quick break from that for a bit to get the jobs rolling. I signed up with one of the top temp agencies in Ireland called La Creme. I figured temp office work would be the best so that I have my weekends off to travel as well as time here and there to travel as much as I can. So I had my interview yesterday with the temp agency and they said I did really well on all the tests and feel confident that they can place me with their employers. They just need to check my references and then I can begin being placed. One of my references has already confirmed that they were contacted today so hopefully I will hear something over the next day or two.

Today I spent two hours waiting at the immigration office to get my ID card so that I can work for the whole year while I am here. Tomorrow I will likely spend another few hours at the Social Welfare office attempting to get my PPS(Sin) number sorted. I was hoping to do it last week but they need proof of address so I had to wait for the landlord to get me a letter confirming that I live in Dublin.

Now for the fun and random bits about Dublin:

*Item 1 Dublin is the weird mullet breeding ground for young pre-teens and teenagers of Ireland (atleast). It is the funniest thing ever. All the young boys have this weird mullet going where they gel the front portion of their hair to their forehead and then spike the rest of the hair up. I will attempt to do a covert photo mission over the next few days in order to document this mullet phenom! The young girls also sport the emo/punk mullet that is common back home.

*Item 2 Addictions to over doing makeup. The females of Dublin seem to find the need to cake on the orange foundation on their face with the white neck showing. It's pretty funny to see this crazy orange faced irish folk running around. Also on the list for the covert photo mission.

*Item 3 Plastic bags banned. Apparently it is almost impossible to get plastic bags at grocery stores or retail stores. This I learned the hard way when I filled my basket with my first weeks of groceries and got to the counter to find out that they did not have plastic bags but I could purchase a reusable bag, which I did.

*Item 4 I think that is it for todays list of random things about Dublin

Keep your fingers crossed that I will start working soon. If anything eventful happens over the next few days I will post again. If not, I am planning for a visit to the Pheonix Green this weekend (The biggest park in Europe). So I will post after that.

ps. Theresa, sorry no little leprechauns yet... but I'm keeping my eyes open for them.

Funny Random Sitings
Katie, very funny descriptions please make sure you disguise yourself while on your covert mission. You do not want to be known as the Crazy Canadain... Have fun.

random bits
Katie, I'm with Donna this afternoon, I gave her your blog link and we reading your random bits together. Donna giggled and peed just a little bit about the mullets and orange face makeup. We can't wait for your covert photo missions to prove this to us. Until we see the photos, we will call this an urban myth. I miss you baby!! I hope you find work soon, we all have our fingers crossed and wish you the best. Jill is back from her trip, we will write a blog about that.
