Yes, I am still alive and well and not yet in prison, kidnapped, or sold into prostitution. I even talked to strangers and got a little drunk. Amazing I am still alive I know. So, the flight was LONG. And the food was horrible, but I had to eat it being that my flights were so incredibly long. Anyway, got to Bangkok late last night, checked into my hostel, all was well...I managed the public transportation pretty well on no sleep. The people here are great. I have not felt uncomfortable at all. No high pressure sales tactics like I was expecting either. So, today I wandered around the city, my feet are killing me! I went to a market full of loads of crap, aisles and aisles all selling the same junk. Ate some questionable food today...accidentally drank some ice, but I am still alive and well. My room at my hostel has ants and bugs, I have to wipe the ants off the toilet seat, at least I think they are ants. I like the place though regardless..cheap and safe. Anyway, after the market I got a little lost trying to find the skytrain, but had a nice adventure
through a beautiful park and a very busy highway.
Then I went to Kao Shan Road, a bit of a tourist trap with lots of drunk foreigners and a lot of crap to buy. I did not buy anything today you will be impressed to know I am sure (except a watch battery...I needed that). Oh, and the questionable drink with ice...oops. Anyway, so I did not talk to a soul all day...my vocabulary consisted of "no thank you" and "excuse me". I still can not get the language absorbed into my short term memory, but I seem to be doing all right. So, then I decided to drink some beer, of course at the most deserted bar on a really slow street, and met some great girls from Australia and New Zealand. Me and the Aussie ended up hanging out pretty late and went to a bar, people watched, met some interesting people, saw a fight (I almost got beaten with a pool stick!), and then took a tuk tuk home...my first experience with that which I was originally afraid of, but it was really fun and really cheap. My new aussie friend suckered me into it! By
the way, I have mastered the sky train here...not a big accomplishment but I am proud. I also saw the high end shopping district, nice and air conditioned, but not eventful at all.
So, tomorrow I am off to Chiang Mai. I will visit with Judy's cousin, get toured around by a local, and also go to the flower festival, which I am very excited about as I hear it is fantastic.
So far being unemployed isn't so bad, nothing like a trip to Thailand to take your mind off being layed off...yes, my last day was on monday for those of you who don't know. Perfect timing eh?
That is all for me today, internet isn't all that cheap. I need to wake up at 5:30 am tomorrow and try to get myself to the airport to catch my flight.
