It occurs to me that I haven't fully explained the class trip...
my "curso" (class from school) went on a bus trip starting in Copiapó, through Argentina, and into Brazil, with a little side trip into Paraguay. we spent a few of the nights sleeping on the bus (well not a whole lot of sleeping was done), and the rest we stayed in hotels. the trip was just short of two weeks long and it was AMAZINGLY FUNNNNN....!!!
we went at the end of december (so why, Tammy, are you only now getting the pics up??.... well i have a long list of excuses including moving and internet problems but i´ll spare you all and just upload the pics)
some of the highlights include...
WATERPLAY: this was a craaazy obsticle course in the mud which we were pushed through screaming and yelling and falling... and it involved a mud fight, various challanges, some dancing, some jumping into giant pits of muddy water and a lotttt of fun. I dont think i have EVER been that incredibly dirty.
DISCOS: we went dancing at some great disco clubs in Brazil... sooo much fun! there were crazy lights, the poured soap bubbles
down into the audience (to the point that if you went in the middle it was chest high in suds), and they let us stay out dancing until the wee hours of the morning!
BEACHES: we got to go to some pretty famous brazilian beaches such as Las Bombas and Camboriu, they were really really beautiful... just like those crystal blue water and white sand pictures you see in pictures of brazil! and for those of you who are wondering i did NOT buy myself a Tanga (the popular and TINY brazilian bikinis)... a few of my friends did though! actually on that same note, the shopping was great at the beaches, everything was dirt cheap.
CRISTO LUZ: the famous jesus statue holding the big light thingy... there were lots of tourists there, and I bought a few little souvenirs, but unfortunately lost them 😞
PARQUE DE LAS AVES: this was one of the coolest things ive ever been to!!! i got to pat a tucan!!! its a big bird park that you walk through (you pass through two gates between each area) and a lot of the birds there are so used to people that they
let you touch them! or come up and touch you!
CATARATAS: the waterfalls of Foz de Iguazu on the Brazilian-Argentinian border... absolutely breathtaking. like something out of a movie! and we went rafting right up under them... which was very cold and very wet. but fun.
COWS: there were some bulls at a brazilian hotel we stayed at and i made friends with one of them... as you can see in the pic!
CIUDAD DEL ESTE: we went on a day trip into Paraguay, but unfortunately it wasnt safe to take out my camera so i have very few pictures... the shopping was great, ive never seen prices so low for everything from clothing to jewelry to electronics... but the poverty was striking. the street people were everywhere, and it was so so crowded.

Cristo
Where is the Cristo? Not in Río? It's not just another name for the Cristo Redentor (very famous statue above Río de Janeiro), is it? It's "trenzas" - the braids.
