Reefton

Her I am now in Reefton after a 700 mile journey through South Island, New Zealand. I Left Fox Glacier three days ago and passed through Franz Josef Glacier. I called for a brew in a cafe on the main street and left my bike with all my worldly belongings against the wall outside. When I cam out fifteen minutes later my bike was gone - panic. I aked people on the table next to it and no result. Eventually I found it intact in the next street. Gasp. The rest of the day was uneventful but hard with three hills. the last one being called Hercules , I did not feel like him. ross was a let down with the Historic Empire hotel being rather in need of refurbing. the cabin was OK but the kitchen and shower were definitely under par with wood rot and flies. I survived but was only $20. Teh meal in hte hotel was very good. The next day saw me going to Greymouth which was a steady ride in overcast conditions and occasional drizzle. Greymouth is an industrial town and OK. Following this stay in the Noahs Ark Hostel I went to Reefton into the Old Nurses Home - very nice and clean. I arrived at 1.30 after an easy ride and went to a gold mining and village museum at Black Point, which was very interesting. The sun started to shine at 3pm and it became very warm at about 25 degrees. A nice small town worth a short visit. I am now in cow country and see more cows then sheep and milk tankers by the score. Ther must be a large dairy in Greymouth since I was met by a milk tanker coming towards me all morning every 10 minutes - an eight wheeler pulling an eight wheel trailer. A lot of milk. I believe that farmers here milk 250 cows plus. Late afternoin saw me filming some young lads bridge jumping - fools.
