Our Route

I still haven't found a WiFi spot to download any pictures, but hope to soon.

Sunday we were in Antigua where I went on a zipline canopy tour across a beautiful jungle valley. It was breathtaking. Nine different lines across the valley stretching from tree to tree, each progressively longer than the last, and a finish that dropped straight down 30 feet. I was a sweaty mess by the time I climbed back to the top -- especially with 25 lbs. of gear on me.

Monday we were at sea again. But yesterday we were in Curacao, a lovely Dutch island. The buildings that line the harbor would be at home in Holland. Each is painted a different color -- even better than downtown Nisswa! I didn't go on a specific tour there, but walked awound the town with my new friend, Hugh, who is from Scotland. It was a bit of a walk into town, so Mom didn't want to go. She's been there before. They have a floating bridge from one side of town to the other. When ship comes in or out of the harbor, the bridge swings open and the free ferries start running. We were lucky to get to take the ferry over and bridge back. We also visited our sister ship, The Boudicca, which was in port with us. There were also two huge cruise ships in town, so every place was jammed with people. We hurried back to watch the Inauguration which was shown on the BBC World channel that we get on the ship. Fascinating to get the British point-of-view on our political system. They seemed especially interested in how tall Michelle is! It certainly was a day to be proud to be an American.

Today we are in Santa Marta, Columbia, which is a very small port with very little to do. It is the first time our cruise line has been here and they are quite concerned about our safety. After all, it IS Columbia! I don't plan to go any farther than the shops by the dock which are supposed to have "real native stuff." By the way, we are getting used to calling the pier or dock a quay, pronounced "key."

It is hot and humid every day. We are feeling fine and I'm getting a good start on a tan. We sure picked the right winter to go away, didn't we?
