After two days on the slow boat I eventually arrive at one of the most sophisticated and enchanting cities in Laos.
There's a strong French presence here with its French architecture and quaint patisseries on every street corner. Its teaming with stunning Wats and a lively night market selling everything from local food to jewellery and handcraft.

My two days here are spent visiting Tat Kuang Si, a nearby multi-tiered waterfall tumbling over limestone formations into a series of turquoise pools. Magnificent. As if something out of a childs fantasy book. Well worth a visit to.

The following day I ventured out with my camera to the old quarter visiting various Wats and Temples with there classic Luang Prabang architecture and rare mosaic wall features.
Its a fascinating walk round town with the Mekong river to one side and the lush green hills to the other.

Just before sunset I climb to Phu Si Temple which sits high above the town with amazing views. Unfortunately I'm not the only one with this idea and therefore the vibe is slightly ruined with the many tourists trying to capture the perfect sunset shot.
On the upside it did give me an opportunity to talk with many others and eventually four of us, one Brazilian, one Canadian and an Aussi head down to a riverside restaurants to sip on Beer Laos and feast on the fresh fish from the Mekong river followed by a sneaky French pastry from the market.

For me the two days was the perfect amount of time. Im up early tomorrow for a 6 hour bus journey through the hills to Vang Vieng, the small town now famous on the map of it's 'Tubbing'.
All will be revealed in my next entry.

Loving all the messages guys. They're really putting a smile on my face and it's great to hear from you all xxx
