I'm pretty busy right now so I can't do a full post however I'll put up some updates. I shall call it "And now, some questions from Mom"

"First off what do you think of the course, are you learning new stuff or is it same old same old?"

The first aid was kind of useless. I thought it would be oriented somehow to a marine environment however it was just another first aid course which by now is quite routine and identical to the last.

The Emergency survival was pretty good. It was mostly common sense however it did include a lot of new information like how to use all the different survival equipment and how they all work. The best part was when we were at the pool and used all the equipment like a life raft and everything (pictures to come). It taught us how to use all the equipment properly as well as stuff like how to deal with a burning oil slick on the water your are trying to swim in and stuff like that.

The firefighting has been bot a review and some new stuff. It's all very basic for the first half of the day it was all stuff I knew however once we got into dealing with backdrafts and flashovers it was all new. Tomorrow we get to go into a burning boat and fight actual fires.

"What are the other folks on the course like?"

They are nice. About what you would expect.

"Are they your age, experienced crew, ?????"

Yes, no, Yes and no.

The youngest is about 19 and some are in their mid 30s. Ariel is the captain of a racing sailboat from New York and Ricco is from Montreal and has never been on a boat before. There is a whole lot of in between as well.

"Any of them already have a boat they are working on?"

Some do some don't. The two Aussies are already working on a boat and yet Natalie is like us, looking for work.

"Have you begun to get your resume out yet and how do you go about doing that? Run into Jen’s old partner yet?"

No, I still need to find some time to go through it with Elona (one of the people that runs the crew house) however most boats haven't arrived yet and there is already lots of work to go around. I don't know the names of Jen's old partner however I would guess the answer to that one is yes.

"What second airline ticket did you by and to where?"

Liat Airlines flight 509 to Antigua leaving on Nov 26th at 6:10 PM

More to come after the course is done.

Good entry Neil. Very informative. Mom didn't ask you what types of birds you've seen yet? Am I the only one that gets that question? Next we need to hear about the burning boat drill...that sounds cool.

Yeah I'll post about that later. There aren't many birds here. At least very few that you ever see.
