It was a good weekend! Friday morning I got up really early to make sure I had everything ready before I left for school. First thing at school I had “coordination” with Lourdes and Guillermo- the secretary and the gym teacher. Basically they practice their English and I practice my Spanish. It was fun and beneficial for all of us. Then I had English with the 5 year olds. It was ok, we sang a song and they colored. Its just hard cuz they don’t know any English and at that age you cant really do much anyways besides color. Last class of the day was 3rd grade science. They had a test so I helped 4th grade English for a while and then when the 3rd graders were done with their test I helped them work on the 5 senses. It was fun.
After school I went home really quick and got all of my stuff-- Ceci and Rachel had made me a lunch haha. We caught the 3:00 bus to Granada. We got there about 4:45 and then walked for like 25 minutes to our hostle. We stayed at the Oasis hostle, which was pretty cool. They had a
big kitchen you could use, 3 computers with internet as well as wifi, a tv room, a bar, outdoor patio with pingpong and a roof terrace. We stayed in a 10 person room with a girl from Belgium in a smaller room within. There was one bathroom for all 10 of us, as well as individual lockers.
Granada is really cool. Since its close to Morocco, there is a lot of Arabic influence. And there are a lot of hippies haha. There are lots of shops with Arabic stuff and tons of cool things. You could walk around for hours shopping. They also have a lot of modern stuff as well with trendy stores, so I liked that also. It kinda reminded me of Barcelona. We put our stuff in our room and then walked around for a bit and met Jessica. She studied last year in Granada and her boyfriend lives there, so she knew where to take us. We shopped for a bit and then went to a few tapas bars. In Granada, if you order a drink you get a tapa, and I loved this concept! The first bar we had bread with tuna and tomato on
them. The second bar we had baked potatoes split in half with garlic, salt & pepper, sour cream, shredded carrots and beets, and corn-- they were good! And Jessica’s boyfriend works at a bar, so we ended the night there. Their tapas were really good- it was like a Panini thing, pasta salad and chips with spicy red sauce and aioli. We went back to our hotel for the night cuz we wanted to get up early on Saturday!
We got up at about 7:30 on Saturday and had breakfast at the hostle-- it was free but it was just toast, coffee and tea. We hiked up a huge hill to the Alhambra because it is VERY busy and you have to buy tickets early. So we got our tickets, but you are assigned a certain time to enter the Palace itself. There are gardens, a museum, a summer house and watch tower all on the property so there was a lot to do before we went into the palace. The gardens were beautiful and you could see the Alambra itself from the summer house. There were gorgeous views of Granada as well. We finally got into
the Alambra and it was very pretty, but I thought the other places were better. We spent almost 4 hours there! Here is a link for more info on the Alambra- http://www.alhambradegranada.org/default_en.asp
After that we walked back down and had lunch and took a nap at the hostle. We met Jessica for tapas again. The first bar we went to had really good tapas- chicken with curry and coconut sauce, pork with rice in a spicy sauce, cod and potatoes. We had wine and sangria. The second place we went to was my favorite-- we got argentine empanadillas and croquetas. We spent a while there. After that we went to one bar by our hostle and it wasn’t that great. We got calamari. We decided to just go to sleep after that cuz we were pretty worn out from all the walking.
Sunday morning we slept till about 10 and had breakfast. We checked out of the hotel and walked around some more. Our hostle was in the tea area, so we decided to check one out. The tea was just ok. We went into a few more shops and then decided to go back to the bus station
to catch one back to Priego. We got back to Priego around 6 and went home to get ready for the week.
It was a GREAT weekend and I absolutely loved Granada. I can’t wait to go back!

could you teach the little kids head shoulders knees and toes? they might like to learn some simple song, and that one would teach them parts of the body..... just a thought I had. I love you
