Sunday Night.

We decided to enjoy the McDonald's next door, two Royal Cheeses. The place was really busy.

Monday, 6th October, 2008.

Raining again.

The plan for today is Longly to Nemours.

We had had an early night to give ourselves a good start for the day, as we were planning on driving about 300 kilometers. We completed the journey via the toll motorways and I have to say they are a delight to drive. We stopped off at a Motorway area and had a Ham & Cheese baguette, with coffees as a snack. Most of the journey was at about 80 mph, much faster than we have been traveling.

We had planned on a bit of a back track because one of the aims behind the overall trip was to visit Fontainebleau, because Pat had lived in the area, due to her Father's service here with the Royal Air Force.

We had made good time with the journey, so we decided to orientate ourselves around Fontainebleau and see what we could find. Pat had lived in Samoreau, Montigny Sur Loing, and then Fontainebleau itself.

We headed off into the surrounding area, Pat had the map and her memory, I drove. Montigny sur Loing came first and we ambled up and down the various streets and thought we had exhausted our chances, when Pat spotted the back of the school she went to. We navigated round and it was the one, Groupe Scolaire du Montigny Sur Loing. From there, Pat had a vague memory of the journey to school, and after driving a short way, we came across a house that fitted the bill. In Rue de Poirier de Fromie, with a holly tree in the front garden and various other small things, she remembered.

A great moment.

We then went to Samoreau, and went up and down this small village, but we didn't have the same luck.

Time was moving on, so we headed back to Fontainebleau, to get to Nemours, where we were staying for the night. As we were wending our way through the town, Pat spotted the housing block that she had lived in, next door to the school she had attended. A parking space was rapidly found. This was incredible luck for us, and well done, by Pat.

The school was the C. E.

S. International, and the housing was at the time NATO housing, Rue de Canada. The flats looked mostly unoccupied now, and the building is not in best of health.

Anyway, this was another great moment, and although we didn't find them all, two out of three ain't bad, as the saying goes.

We hit the first thousand miles on the trip today. The other good thing was the improvement in the weather, we haven't really headed south yet, but the rain stopped not long after Longwy, and the temperature in Fontainbleau was 19°C.

We then set off for Nemours and found the Hotel, with little difficulty.
