 Miami Miami Miami

We had a long layover, wandered around South Beach
We knew the journey to Peru was going to be long but we had a very slow start to our trip which made it even longer. Just crossing the border near home took FOREVER. Then there was the ROAD CONSTRUCTION on the way to the freeway to Seattle. The 2.5 hr trip to Seatac took almost 5 hours. Thank goodness we had lots of time but we were very quiet and a bit panicky until we were close to the airport. We took the red eye from Seattle to Miami. Very quick flight. I think we did each get a couple hours sleep but it basically felt like we were up all night. In Miami we had a long lay-over and were trying to decide what to do because it was only 6am and still dark outside when we arrived. We ended up taking a hotel shuttle to South Beach for the day. We ARE going to stay there overnight on the way back from Peru in one of the deco hotels so we knew they had a shuttle. We spent the day walking around the Lincoln Road pedestrian mall area. It was very humid and warm. The whole area is very unique, all the older buildings are stucco and colorful and lots of them are being restored. The beach was windy though. Hoping it will be beach and pool weather for our one night there on the way back. There was more spanish in Miami than english and we found a street of spanish restaurants to try out when we come back here in a few weeks. We hopped on the South Beach Local bus for 25 cents for a cheap tour but that caused us to miss our airport bus even though we got off and really hoofed it , we could not make it in time. The cheap tour on the local bus ended up costing us a $35 cab fare back to the airport.

The flight to Lima was great, very quick and now we are in Lima airport at midnight waiting for the next connection in the early morning. We will have to find a place to lay down for the night otherwise that will be 2 days without sleep. Who organised this anyway....I guess the cheap airfare reflects the long layovers!

Miami
Miami is on our list - we did Ft Lauderdale -great for sun and sand(if you don't mind the two guys next to you making out) and we did Key West briefly, very French Quarter like. But my sister says South Beach and Miami are great.
