Hey guys,

Hope you are all well, thanks for all the messages it is lovely to recieve them!
I had a lovely weekend at the beach in Mompiche, it was nice to see a bit of sunshine, but the mossies were a nightmare and I now look like I have the plague.. hence only the one photo of me this week!!! We were taken on a boat tour of the bay around Mompiche which was absolutely wonderful. I drank coconut juice from a fresh coconut off the tree (I really hadn´t realised that they wren´t usually brown!!) And sat on the beach and relaxed. I saw the sun set over the pacific ocean which was beautiful. We then made the 13 hour (7 hours of which were during the night, hence the mossie bites!) trip back to the reserve via Quito. so I spent 26 hours travelling to go to the beach... but it was a good beach tho!! ;o)

Then I had my first proper week at "work", well three days, but hey. Its been good so far, the tasks are different each day, so Wednes I was pruning trees, with a machete... I only hope the trees survive the trauma, otherwise I shall be the first person ever to go to do conservation work and end up killing more trees than saving!
Thursday we spent the morning painting a local school (see photo) and in the afternoon we cleared some of the shed which has so much crap in its amazing before shredding bamboo which the reserve can then sell to get money for tools etc. We went to some hot springs in the evening and then today we were clearing the compost heap.. yummy!

This afternoon was spent getting ready to leave for Oltovalo but I had a bit of free time to Romiero, the director who runs the reserve showed me how to make knotted bracelets which I had a go at which is really theraputic.. Í still have a bit to go but when its finished I shall show you!

Talking of photos... the new bathroom sink that I built! The engineers among you may notice that I probably could have done with a spirit level, but hey, I´m impressed that after a week it is still standing, its not every day you make a sink pedestal out of wood, random blocks and mud! ;o)

So this evening I travelled back to Oltovalo, Romiero detoured to the volcano with the lake in so took a quick photo, but will find out more about it for next time!

So here it is Friday night, I have been asked to join Romiero and his friends to do a mountain hike, this weekend, but I am thinking I might have a rest this weekend, still we shall see how I feel tomorrow, I am still aching from shovelling compost all morning!

So on that note, I am going to see if I can find myself a cerveza....bye for now,
Lots of love to you all and I shall write again soon,
Lorna xxxx

You mean you didn't have a spirit level in your bag!!! The sink looks like a work of art, but why is the bathroom outside?! I hope the toilet isn't the tree next door!! The lake looks beautiful, worth the detour. Did you get to meet the school children while you were painting the school? xx

Bathroom Sink
Lorna - Photographs look fantastic, sounds like you are having the time of your life and enjoying it. I think you shoud seriously consider bringing your sink design back to the UK when you return and selling it as a thoroughly green and rustic alternative. Could make you a millionaire. Love reading your adventures keep up the good work. From the Telford Atkinites. x.

Engineer?
Hi Lorna, nice to see you are learning new skills to bring back to work. I trust you did a risk assessment before building the sink. Let us know what other useful skills you pick up.
