The beach
Rollingstone Beach Resort Caravan Park was quite different. Still can't swim in ocean so focus on the pool. It was really nice with a tropical setting.

AIRLIE BEACH

A 360 km drive sown the Bruce Highway went smoothly although we are surprised at the infrequent overtaking lanes. Travelling at 90 km/hr we do tend to slow the traffic down.

We had great expectations of Airlie Beach that were not met. You know, loud music everywhere and no really good seaside eating places. A lot has been done to beautify the place and the man made lagoon was impressive. The pristine white beaches are just not there. Mud when the tide is out. Airlie seems to be mainly a hub for Whitsunday touring and a young person's destination. Oh well, maybe we expected too much!

The Big4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort was about 5km out of the town. It was really good with sites that were separated from each other by a small garden. Again, lots of tropical plants.

MACKAY

The most amazing 'tide-out' we have seen. The water goes way, way out! Like everywhere else, it is a different city. Seems like

Part of the Lagoon in town
a working class town and surprisingly larger than expected.

We had a look at the port, a fantastic breakwater , at Slade Point and drove beachside along Harbour Beach for about 5 km. Town Beach near the business centre was not user friendly as the tides go out so far. We may think differently when the tide is in.

Andergrove Caravan Park is quite good. We were 'bumped' to the overflow section as the site we were allocated suffered from the stench of a 'grey water' pipe burst. We were quite happy with the outcome though as we have a nice outlook with room to burn.

70 km to the West we found Eungella National Park and did some walks through tropical rain forest and in to Finch Hatton Gorge. The scenery was magic!

Travel Pics
Keep up the good work. We are enjoying your commentary and your photos. As a self confessed "control freak" it must be wonderful to look in the rear view mirror and see that line up of cars. Looking forward to details (and pics) during the rest of the journey.
