A week of Luxury

Big sorry about the lack of blogs, been a bit of a mad month. Another month in the orphanage means another descanso, this time I headed off to the City with Andrés, Montse and Quique, the first time me and Andrés have been allowed on descanso together ever, since we were both english teachers. So to start off we headed up to his house in the city for a night. After having spent a bit more time in around the city centre I'm actually starting to like it. But Andrés lives in Zone 10, far from where I had seen before. We drove into an area that looked like I would imagine the states looks like, with supermerkets, shopping centres, and neon signs everywhere. We drove on into his estate which would remind you of the Four Winds in Belfast. Inside, his house was luxuriously furnished and complete with cooks and cleaners. After a very enjoyable night in luxury we headed off to his house on the Pacific Coast.

We hit Puerto Quetzal on the Pacific early enough, but when we seen his house and swimming pool we decided to stay there the night. We cracked open a bottle of Zacapa Centenario, apparently the best rum in the world, damn tasty it was. Me and Andrés finished her off that night. The next day myself, Andrés and Quique were up hours before Montse so decided to have a Gallo party in the pool. Great stuff! We finally made it to the Pacific and I was seriously scared by how strong the rip current is. Standing in water just over my feet I could feel it's pull due to the amount of black volcanic sand it carries. After about an hour messing about there we went back to the house to carry on with the Gallo sponsered party and finish the night off. No surfing done unfortunatly, apparently u need to get down to El Salvador for the good stuff, maybe next time.

The following day we were back up to the city to drop Montse off and we spent another night there. The next day the three of us headed back to Antigua (now my fourth time there) to meet some other volunteers that were on descanso. We decided to meet up the next day in the city and all head up together to Andrés' house at Lake Amatitlan. True to the plan they turned up and we headed off. When we arrived at the house I was even more amazed than the last time, the house, a large bungalow, was on a few acres of land right on the shores of the lake with their own pier, boat house, boats, swimming pool and jacuzzi. Needless to say we spent most of the day between the swimming pool and the jacuzzi. Pure luxury I tell ya. Just a pity I forgot my camera this time, but I'll be back don't worry.

After that we head back for one last night in the city and I was back off to the orphanage. Quite a lot of changes have taken place in the last month, and the orphanage just wasn't the same as it used to be. The new volunteers are trying to run the place like an army camp and all the old timers have left or are just about to. I was made a job offer by a couple of Dutch friends that run a café in town and a couple of weeks later I accepted. Full details in the next blog, don't miss it!
