Salvador de Bahia - African coast of Brazil

Following our amazing adventure in Iguazu, it was just a short flight and harrowing taxi ride away from our lovely pousada in Salvador de Bahia! It was the first time we had witnessed a driver put eye drops in his eyes whilst steering with his knees on a freeway at 130km/hour! However we were able to quickly get over this trauma for the enticing weather (is hot!), glorious beaches and lively street night life complete with cheap caprihinas and live bands.• City highlights: Barra - the beachside neighbourhood we´re staying in is incredible and full of locals milling about, eating at all hours and drinking fresh coconuts in the sun; exploring the amazing gold churches in pelourinho - the area´s oldest neighbourhood; discovering the local cuisine and witnessing firsthand how much the town has been influenced by its african/portuguese heritage.• Accommodation: 4.5/5 for the location (close to some of the town´s best bars, beaches and restaurants), amazing hospitality and delicious breakfasts (served until midday!).• Food: This has been one of the best places we´ve eaten at so far - from the steamed crabs complete with chilli/lime to the amazing prawn curries, hotdogs, seafood empenadas and fresh acai berry smoothies, this town is not wanting in character or flavour!• Misc: Paul´s athleticism when our camera was snatched from Jean´s arm by a thief who proceeded to flee the cobblestoned streets in pelourinho. The locals watched in amazement as Paul relentlessly pursued him until he recovered the camera (paul is now a local legend 😊 although he was always a hero to jean!); $1 hotdogs - the best bargain for the BEST hotdogs this side of Brazil (paul has never witnessed jean inhale something so quickly); watching local kids doing backflips along the beach, buying cheap caprihinas on the beach, listening to the local reggae whilst sat on the warm sand watching the sun set....it´s a hard life. ciao ciao!!
