As a big tv crime lover, the serie "Midsomer Murders" (in Denmark and other countries called "Barnaby") is one of my favourite programs on tv. One of the benefits with living in Britain is you get all the premieres of good British programs and also when it comes to life and particular death in County Midsomer. One of the latest Midsomer Murders had Englefield House as one of its locations. Englefield House is located only a few kilometres from Reading in a very beautiful park and is definetely worth a visit - also for people who is not a particular big fan of British crime movies.

Englefield > Hengeveld Holland ?
Dear Sirs, I just surfed on internet to find out if there was a name Angelveld or varying spellings in the world. So I found your site and beautiful pictures. Besides, I like Barnaby's Mid Sommer Murders very much, although they are somtimes to spooky. The reason for my search is, that I try to find the meaning of a townlet called Hengevelde, here in Twente. My theory was, that it could original mean "het veld van de Angelen" (The field of the Angles), since it is known that around 100 AD some Angles from Northern Gemrany settled in the North Eastern part of The Netherlands. The "H" of Hengeveld could possibly the "H aspiré" as occurs frequently in Saxon areas. Could you tell me how the name Englefield originated? Greetings from Twente! Bernard Kranenburg
