This morning we popped into town to buy a couple of postcards of the penguins and set off to Christchurch. There was nothing to see or do inbetween. We stopped at Timaru, had a brief walk around and then had our lunch by Caroline Bay. Today the weather was nice.
After a long, tiring journey we got booked into a site in Christchurch. We headed to the supermarket for a pizza and a bottle of wine! (treat!) and I made some great chips! We then watched a movie and bed.

This morning we took a unsatisfying trip to the Backpackers car market, the same place that we bought our van from in Auckland, to view the prices and get some information.
Everyone had been told the same as us by the same lying woman in Auckland, Nina! We were all told we would sell no problem, it was the height of the season you'll get more! A couple found out that she sells her vans mixed in with the backpackers, it all sounded really dodgy. Well there were several vans there and nobody buying! The prices were low. One couple had been there 8 days! But then a couple of vans had sold within 2 hours of being there.
We are going to leave ourselves a week to sell it and we are confident that we will get something similar back to what we paid.
So we left here a little annoyed with the people in Auckland who are telling everyone the same!!! for a scenic drive to Kaikoura.

Backpackers car market, Auckland
In March 2006, I was tried to sell the car at Auckland Backpacker Carmarket. It just wasted my time there end up without selling my car for 6 days. Someday I found the owner is also selling their cars mixed with other backpackers car. Im very sure that She and her husband would be very reach as bought the tourist car with cheapets price (because couldn't sell it) then They sold the car with the highest profit. Be Carefull don't sell your cars to this family. PEACE...

BACKPACKERS BAZAAR CHRISTCHURCH
Be CAREFUL with the BACKPACKERS BAZAAR in Christchurch as well! I have purchased a car there, the odometer was not corresponding with the contract, the contract was saying that there was no outstanding money (RUC - Road User Charges) - but there was! I got back to them and they didn't want to pay me the money. After the involvement of VTNZ they finally handed the money out to me. Furthermore, the breaks were totally worn down after two weeks and they did not pay for the replacement. It seems that the do not (want to) know anything about customer service as soon as the car has been purchased! The worst thing: they do not reply to your phone calls and letters. Typical backyard car seller - never trust the smiling sales guy who will NOT be there for you after the sales.

on Backpackers Bazar - Christchurch
Our friend sold his van Mitsubishi L300 at Backpackercars on Barbadoes St and StAsaph St for spare parts for $350 beacause of leaving country. It had broken cylinder head so it was quite serious defect. It boils after 50kms. Then we saw it after 14 days at Backpackers Bazar on 33 Battersea St for $3950! Outrageous! Then our other friend told us about a man who is there almost every week with different car and telling people he's leaving country in a few days. What do you say?...

Backpackers Bazaar Christchurch
DO NOT USE THEM!!!!!! I sold my car to them at such a low price i couldn't believe it but i was leaving the country so had to go ahead with it. it has now been FOUR MONTHS and still no money in my account despite about 25 phone calls, all at my expense of course. I have since found out that the car was sold on to another party two months ago. in effect they have stolen my car and sold it. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!

terrible business
We left the backpackers carmarket infuriated by their business decisions. They are clearly only after the money as noted above by how they sell their own vehicles as well. They charged us $90. for 3 days which we were fine with, but then they allowed so many vehicles in the small space no one could walk around our van, let alone take a look inside or feel comfortable to take it for a test drive as it would have meant moving 3 vehicles. They say they are impartial but they do promote their own vehicles. They have clearly forgotten that the sellers are their business and if we are not happy they will no longer succeed- please think twice before using this service.

Carmarket
We sold our van at the Backpacker carmarket in Auckland a couple of years ago. It only took us 2 hours to sell it and we got the price we asked for.

How terrible!
What terrible people for taking advantage of our tourists. Im a NZ citizen and am sorry to hear that there are people out there ruining other peoples holidays in our country. I feel for you! Sounds like much of what they are doing is illegal really, as in taking others cars and on selling them before they have paid for them. Thats theft! It saddens me, hopefully this blog warns many people. Merry Christmas
