On the way to Glasgow 004
On the Regional plane in Berlin. I woke up at 06:00 in order to do last minute-minute tidying up, give away my still fresh fruit and veg to my student neighbours, do the last dish wash and wash my hair! Wash my hair? Well you never know!!
We took the local bus to the Berlin Main Train Station ( Hbf ) and after hugs and goodbyes went on the Regional Train that had a stop-off at Schönefeld Airport. We arrived there a little after 12 Noon and after slight bag adjustments for the benefit of security control, went through with no problems at all. My belt didn't even beep.
....Probably, 'cos I wasn't wearing one!!!!!
'Since the “no liquid” rule still applied, we had to buy two bottles of expensive cola at €2,00 each in order not to die of thirst. We wouldn't be hungry though as I had made a heap of sandwiches consisting of Parma Ham ( surprise, surprise! ), blue cheese and various French cheeses left over from the weekend plus lots of sticky cake things that one of my guest had brought for my Saturday party!
Our Easyjet flight was to leave at 13:40 and so we
On the way to Glasgow 010
Easyjet view of Glasgow. Whoopee! sat in the check-in section for about an hour. We're Berliners so we sat on the very comfortable floor and played with some of the various toys I had brought along. There were only a few children on this flight and so we all went on the plane first, since there's no allocated seating.
The flight was smooth and whilst I kept nodding off into never-never land, “The Small Young Gentleman” did some colouring and filled-in his activity books.
We arrived Glasgow at 3p.m ( UK ) time and spent a bit of time at the Information Desk which resulted in us leaving the airport 1 hour later! No matter. We're on holiday after all! We took the Airport Link bus which had a sweet deal of student price of ₤1.50 and a child's price of ₤2. Normal prices were ₤3,50. One Way!
We finally got to the Buchanan Main Bus Station. Our hotel was a 10-15 min walk away but somehow it took us 30 mins. Its based on a very long road in the university area which believe me is a good thing! Our hotel: The Charing Cross GuestHouse Hotel is pretty quiet
but take a 5 min walk and you're in the business of live music, bars, clubs and restaurants with pretty impressive competitive prices. Everywhere we went, there were live bands, DJ's or LCD video screens with good music. Of course, many of those places we couldn't enter 'cos duh!
Next time ay!!
I became a little worried about the hotel which on the outside was clean, presentable and filled with lovely plants. On the inside, it was well.... British! We were on the 2nd floor. We had a private double room with shared bathrooms at ₤50 a night! The room was clean definitely, but the bathroom and toilet looked a little worn. I keep forgetting. Its not Germany!
After a bit of a rest and a bit of English music TV, we went for a walk on the High Street to find a place to eat supper. We picked on the Yates's pub 'cos a meal for “The Small Young Gentleman” was free and it welcomed children of an evening! He had a beef burger, chips and baked beans whilst I had an “All Day Breakfast” consisting of sausages, fried egg, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, chips and baked
beans for the princely sum of ₤4,45 and ₤2.25 for a pint of Strong Bow Cider. From 8p.m on Mondays, beers and specific drinks were 1 pound a pint! However, after 8p.m, children were ahem....discouraged!
Whilst I had my give-away-priced cider, “The Small Young Gentleman” had befriended a Scottish young lady (Lindsy) who he played snooker with. They had a fine time.
At 8:30p.m, we left Yates's and decided to go for a stroll that lasted all of 2.5 hours! We walked around the town centre which was less than 10 mins away and took lots of photos and basically ran amok around the then empty High Street.
At a little after 11p.m, we went back to our hotel and thus to bed.
See ye tomorrow!
