A view from inside the lift
The Palace is a pretty cool place. That's where I'm staying. It's actually called Palace Backpackers now but it was originally called The People's Palace and, affectionally, known as the Lady of Lace due to the wonderful lattice work around the building. It was owned by the Salvation Army and has been threatened with being knocked down on several occasions contributing to why it is heritage listed these days. The Salvation Army opened it on 27 June, 1911 for the average Joe. Rooms cost $8 a night at one stage. That's a bit of a contrast to the $45 that I pay. Just about the whole building has stayed original. I am staying on the fourth floor, with is pretty alright. I ventured down to the third floor last night and I thought that was nice as well. Possibly even nicer. I'm not sure. The old lift is great and still works like a charm and I'm quite impressed by how it works.

This is a view from Central Station. Many photos like this have been taken in the century gone by.

The hallways are pretty straight forward. On the other floors they have cool, early 20th century pretty things halfway down the halfway.

These are two people who happened to be around when I was trying to take a photo from inside the lift. The third is behind the camera, obviously unaware of how precise this camera wants people to be.

I like these old style train stations. They should keep them like this.
