Day 3

Late waking, due to a heavy international poker session the previous night involving locals of the hostel and assorted others. Valiant attempts from all, most notably Mr McGregor's four hour marathon and the Mopsy/Puddleduck contingent who came a respectable 3rd. Unfortunately, Flopsey pulled out after 15 minutes because he was wilting.

In the morning we visited the Museum of the Romanian Peasant, in which we were stalked by strangely intimidating middle-aged women, who were ready to pounce at the slightest hint of an exposed camera. Nevertheless, we overcame the unsettling tension to enjoy the incredibly uninformative pile of old things. Still, it was interesting, including several whole 18th Century peasant buildings literally lifted from the surrounding countryside. Also, some amusing relics of the communist era, including the jacket of Ceauşescu, complete with bullet holes. Admittedly, we were dubious about the authenticity of the crown of thorns, but decided to suspend our disbelief.

Lunch was welcome for all, and we decided to try the local Romanian/Mexican cuisine. This was acceptable. We would say more about it but it really was just...fine. Over lunch, questions arose. One of which was What might Joe Simmonds be doing now? Several possibilities were discussed.

The afternoon consisted of a wander to the local park, a delightful expanse of greenery and foiliage, complete with busts of literary and artistic greats such as Shakespeare, Goethe, Beethoven and the Leonardo's (Da Vinci and Di Caprio). Surrounding the park were a number of sights, including the Bucharesti Arc D'Triumph and a skyscraper sponsored by 'BOG'ART'. Unsurprisingly, Flopsy gazed on the newly erected buildings with beguiled wonder and unveiled enthusiasm.

The evening was spent much as before, with some friendly poker and unabashed flirting.

Looking forward to a 13 hour train ride to Belgrade tonight.

Not there!
It's no good, Tom. You'll have to come home. Your mother and I can't quite handle it. The Simpsons were on TV.....................and you weren't there!
