On Sunday I took a "mini-bus" tour to Windsor and Oxford. All day it looked and felt as if it was just about to rain, but luckily it held off until we were safely back on the bus returning to Cambridge.

Windsor is an absolutely beautiful town across the river Thames from Eton (home to Eton college--where the Princes went to school). Windsor castle is the oldest inhabited castle in the world and is the Queen's main residence. There is a long (5 km), straight road leading up to the castle gates and while standing by the gates admiring the view into the valley and hills surrounding Windsor, we were instructed to move aside to make way for a small, forest green, typically British hatch-back car. As the car went past, we were all shocked when we realized that the QUEEN was sitting in the passenger seat in a canary yellow suit and hat waiving as she drove past. It happened to fast and we weren't expecting anything, so, unfortunately, none of us captured a picture or any solid documentation of the event. The rest of Windsor castle was great--the castle grounds and gardens are absolutely gorgeous and the inside is just something else.

I really went on the tour to visit Oxford, as it is one city in England that I had never been to before. Oxford was a little dissapointing. Unlike, Cambridge which is easy to traverse on foot and everything is super close and quaint, Oxford was spread out, stiff and a bit devoid of character. All of the buildings are made of the same yellow stone and seem very sterile. We did get to see Christ Church college--which boasts a dining hall that was used for the harry potter movies--however, the college was closed because of exams so we didn't get to go inside.

I am still having problems uploading pictures. I have gotten through the first hoop--getting them on the computer--but, now it seems like they aren't the right size or something...
