Hi everyone!!

We're now in Tanzania and it is faaaaaaaantastic. We came over Lake Victoria in a ferry where overnight I got bitten by the "Nairobi fly". It's this bug that releases acid when it's killed, so I got burns all over my legs which obviously got infected and now I'm on antibiotics!! Of course.... but I'm alive and so no big harm came of that and I can now say I've survived being bitten by some wild african insect life!! The ferry ride was cool though, Matt met some locals who were teaching him Swahili which has come in handy.

We got to Mwanza, a port town that has a very Eurpoean feel to it, kind of sleepy and very relaxed. From there we took a cheap flight to Arusha, which is the central place for organizing safaris... on the flight they offered a choice of beef sandwiches or a vegetarian option... turns out Tanzania's idea of a beef sandwich is an ungarnished hot dog on a bun!! anyways ok so we arrived in Arusha and promptly got swarmed by every safari tout in town... they're like human mosquitoes!! It's crazy. one guy followed us around for 2 DAYS!! no matter how many times you say no they just keep following you.... one kid actually asked Matt if he'd trade his "sistah" for the kid's shoes (meaning me) hahahaha... but all you can really do is just laugh.

We went on safari to Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater for 2 days with a couple of girls from the UK and a guy from Ireland that we just met here and had an AMAZING time!! we saw zebras, rhino, hippos, lions, wildebeest, hyenas, giraffes, elephants, dik-diks, impala, gazelles, flamingo.... tons and tons of wildlife and really close up... one of the highlights was sitting next to a watering hole where a lion was keeping watch over a herd of wildebeest who kept coming down to drink. I kept waiting for one to pounce but it didn't end up happening... overall a GREAT trip though!!

We're in Arusha for 2 more nights staying at the Maasai camp, where a bunch of other backpackers are staying as well so we've met some awesome people. And Maasai warriors just come wandering in and play pool and stuff so that's pretty wild to see!! They all have the big holes in their ears and wear the long cloths and everything, it's pretty cool!! We're on our way to Zanzibar now for a little while to get some relaxation and chill time in, although apparently the island has no power so we'll see how that goes!!

Hugs and love to all!! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
