After flight changes, flight delays, exceeding the weight requirement on luggage, and navigating through London and to Cambridge with said luggage in tow, I finally made it to Fitzwilliam College of Cambridge University in tact, though extremely exhausted, last Saturday.
The weather has been stereotypically British, not rainy (yet), but cold, dreary and overcast.
So to catch you up on what I have been up to so far:
-Sunday: lunch with my new boss and his wife. Evensong at Trinity College Chapel. Dinner and a drink with Mog (an old school friend of mine)
-Monday: lots of paperwork/safety training/tours of the building and lab I am working in.
-Tuesday: more paperwork/getting my computer checked out by the tech guys/rented a bike for the week.
In between, there has been lots of sleeping and lots of not being able to sleep (thank you jet lag), lots of meandering around the city-center of Cambridge, a visit to Tesco (a grocery store), and no actual lab work yet as I am still waiting for paperwork to be completed.
Fitzwilliam College is not centrally located like the majority of the colleges, and it takes a good twenty or thirty minutes to walk to the building I am working in. The lab I am working in also has another site (which I may, or may not be working at occasionally) which is another twenty to thirty minutes walk away. To get around efficiently, I have rented a bike for the week and may be able to borrow a bike from one of the other students in the lab.
I haven't taken any pictures yet, but don't worry you'll be bombarded with them soon enough.
