By the way, I wrote this a couple of weeks ago. I am already returned from the Czech Republic and Poland.
Ok, so I definitely needed to write an update on how everything’s going and my adventures in Paris. It’s just been a little hectic and I just haven’t had time.
Since the last time I wrote, many things have happened. My dad visited in January and we went to Strasbourg together. I visited my friends in Lyon for a couple of days. I had all my work for the semester due in January and my finals were in February. Then, I had a 3 week holiday between semesters. I visited Morocco, southern Spain and Portugal. My friends from Georgetown visited. I went to Milan for a weekend. And, last week, my mom, grandmother and uncle visited me in Paris.
Paris is currently, as always, cold and rainy. Well, the last couple of days have been pretty nice and I finally feel like spring (WARM WEATHER) is on the near future. I’m now sitting at a Starbucks with my roommate who’s studying for a midterm she has tomorrow and I just finished a paper for one of my
classes. I know, it’s Friday night and I should be doing something else. But, as I see it, I only have one more week before we have our much-needed “spring break”. April has been a little hectic, because I chose to have all my work for this month. The good news is that, after next Thursday, I’m almost done with ALL of my work for this semester (except for a couple of exposés and papers I have in May of course. Work never ends in Sciences Po). I finally received my grades last week for the first semester. Thankfully, I passed all of my classes, which is what I need to get credit for Georgetown, and I even did above-average in a couple of them (which is pretty good considering we’re being compared with the French students, who have no language problems).
So, next Friday, I leave for Prague for 5 days and then Krakow for 4 days. I’m extremely excited because I really like the East. Even though I’ve been to Krakow already, I can’t wait to be able to relax, get away from Paris, etc. I cannot believe it, but my study abroad is almost over. In
4 months I’ll be in Puerto Rico for summer getting ready for my last year in college. It’s good that I think about this now, because I still have time to do everything that I wanted to do over the year. I had so many goals and things that I wanted to accomplish over the year. And now I’m starting to think that I won’t have enough time to even do half of them. But that’s OK, this is not the last time Paris is going to see me (I hope). Well, since it’s getting warmer, I want to take advantage of the city during the coming months. I can’t say it was particularly appealing to sit in the different parks and walk around in the freezing cold that has been this city since I first arrived in September. I also have a couple of places in Europe I wanted to visit. But, I guess I can’t complain because I have really seen a lot in the time I’ve been here. One big goal I had was to visit Belarus and Russia before I left, but I don’t think its going to happen. The visa process, especially with my passport
(thank you America), is rather complicated and, more importantly, expensive. But, this is not over yet. You never know what will happen.
I’m starting to realize also how much I’m going to miss this city, my apartment and my friends here once I’m gone. I’ve gotten used to my life here and I think it’s going to be somewhat hard to get used to going back to Georgetown next year. My room is MY room now. My neighborhood is MY neighborhood. I will admit that I felt like I was coming back home when I returned from Christmas holiday. But it’s too early to be thinking about this now. I need to get the most out of the coming months. And, since I have basically no work for the entire month of May, I don’t think it will be that hard. More Velib’ (the bikes I ride around the city), more movies (maybe I’ll get one of those unlimited passes), more cafés, more Paris. I can’t wait. For now, Prague and Krakow will do just fine. I’ll update you once I return.
