So, for those of you I haven’t seen or haven’t heard, I’m home. Home. Finally. Flew back on Thursday with a bit of a head cold. Chicago to Seatac; Seatac home. And let me tell you, I have NEVER been so anxious to get off an airplane! We flew over the city a bit, my first glimpses of anything familiar.

The end of tour was hard; actually, it really sucked. We got done working at 12:15, and everyone had to be out of the building by 1. Kyle, Sarah and I basically ran down the street to get lunch together. Then I went downstairs and said a hurried goodbye to the kids. They were in there 2 lines, and it really felt like I was processing them- not really time to say goodbye to each of them individually, some got hugs, some got group squeezes. Beth was in tears. Each of the girls handed me a note they had written- to be read later. I hugged them all and they reformed their two lines and walked away.

We really wanted to get a picture of all the crew, which we barely got. Then Craig and Kyle took off in the truck to NY (Kyle flew home yesterday), Sarah hopped on the bus with the kids and all our new friends bound for North Carolina’s Mirembe house. Anne, Beth and I headed for Chicago, for our last hotel as Anne finished her drive to Kentucky.

It was, all in all, a hard ending. We ran hard and fast until the end, when we all disbanded. But, to quote one of the kids’ favorite songs, “friends are friends forever, if the Lord’s the Lord of them, and a friend will not say never, for the welcome will not end. Though it’s hard to let you go, in the Father’s hands we know, that a lifetime’s not too long to live as friends.” Oh my. They keep asking when I’m going to come see them in Uganda (to try the grasshoppers).

After I got here, I picked up Tato from school and played with an all-too-excited Rosco Wilson. Then I came in to Life Center to see people before they headed away. Then to my house, my own bed. My own bed!

Friday (yesterday) I went and picked up one of my grandkids (high school students) from school and surprised her. And it was a surprise! We played and made cookies and went to a movie, then we went to see Uncle Dave and then a bunch more friends at Barn Friday.

I was sitting with them, everyone talking and laughing, and I could not believe how much I missed being away from them and how happy I am to be back. There wasn’t room in my brain for that. Or my heart. I do miss the Choir kids. I miss them a lot- their smiles and hugs and funny questions and quips. But not nearly as much as I missed these guys. Wow. It’s good to be home.

Friday night was not spent in my own bed. We stayed at the lake to go fishing this morning. One of the funniest things about being back is the huge variety of clothes I have now! On tour, I’d open my bag and have 6 t-shirts, most of which were dirty. Now I have like 12 to choose from! Oh my. And none of them have the ACC logo on them!

So, I’m working on reentering the world I once was in. It seems like I’ve been gone forever, but at the same time, just gone for the weekend. Tonight I was at rehearsal, and everything was familiar- sneezes, kids, music… yet different- set, door locks, systems… I’m so stoked for church tomorrow!

I’ll probably continue to post things as I reflect and process and figure things out, but no promises. This could be the last blog until my next adventure!
