1: Happy Old Lady at the Zocalo in Acapulco. 41 secs
Along with a couple of people from Angela's Hostel we took the bus to Acapulco which was a 5 hour ride. We proved that we are hardcore backpackers by walking to the bus station in the heat of the midday sun. On hindsight this was probably not the best idea as it was really hot and by the end of it Kiki's face was red like a tomato for about an hour. Luckily it was not a sunburn but a case of over heating. In fact it was so hot that the glue which held Monia's trekking shoes together started melting and they began to come apart.

The journey itself felt pretty long, but we were amused by the crazy bus driver who seemed to be concentrating on everything but the road ahead. He was smoking, eating ice cream, buying cds, dancing, listening to music, talking on his mobile... Additionally, every single time we met another bus on the road, he insisted on waving to his fellow bus driver colleagues in the most peculiar way.

Through out the journey various people came on the bus to sell everything from food, cds to multi-functional torches. The road was twisting and turning and we saw lots of signs that said “CURVA PELIGROSA” (in Spanish: Dangerous Turn; read out loud in Polish: 'Dangerous' Whore). This amused us.

We stayed in a Hotel near the Zocalo which is what they call the main town squares here in Mexico. This was in the old part of Acapulco. On the Zocalo there seemed to be constant activity. Dancers, singers, clowns performing, beggars begging, people trying to sell you stuff...

On the first night we went to see the famous cliff divers. It looked quite dramatic as it was all lit up and the sea was really rough. The next day we went to a museum. To be honest it was a little bit boring, but luckily we were entertained by a group of English language students who were forced by their teacher to ask us a bunch of questions. We spent our last day in Acapulco on the beach. We checked out of the hotel in the morning and left our bags there as our bus to Puerto Escondido did not leave until 11:20 pm. The beach was so lovely so lovely. We found a great little bar right on the beach made up of palm trees and hammocks where we sat sipping Corona, enjoying the sun and the sea.

All in all we liked Acapulco, but we felt a couple of days was enough as we wanted to go to a more tranquil place so yet again we were on the move...
