Hi everybody,
it is time to give you some more information again.
Sorry about my Flemish last time.. I just started thinking suddenly in Flemish because my
parents and brother would arrive shortly.
I also have to mention for the next period I won't have any pictures on my blog,
because two camera's are broken at the moment and the pictures of the last
three weeks went straight to Belgium on the airplane..
Anyway! After Tonga, my family came to visit me in Australia.
It was a big change for me, to suddenly travel in the luxury of hotelrooms,
and being able to take a shower everyday! I wasn't used to all that anymore...
We stayed two days in Sydney, to give them the time to get over the jetlag,
wich wasn't really bad.. We visited the Opera house and suddenly became a big
fan of Jorn Utzon, the Danish architect. We ran from here to there, took some boats,
visited the museum of contemporary art, and I see, that it was good. But most of all,
I enjoyed their compagnie.
After this, it was time to start the 'red adventure' in the desert! We flew from
Sydney to
the centre of Australia (Alice Springs). There we hired a 4WD and started our deserted adventure.
We drove from Alice Springs out in the desert for 5 days. We visited several canyons and creecks, where there were big swimming holes without any tourists. We saw wild Wallabies and kangoroos crossing the street. It's not a lie, they really exist in the wild!
The last two days we were in Ayers rocks, to visit like everybody else: Uluru, the big red rock in the middle of the desert. And like lonely planet said: ' you may have seen it as much on postcards and books, but i still makes a deep expression on you!'. It's true. But his sister 'the olgas' is less known, but as much worth going to visit it!. So we visited Uluru and watched the sunset changing the rock into 20 different colors in one hour, and early in the morning we watched the sunrise on the olgas and saw Uluru at the same time. After that, we took the plane to Brisbane and said goodbye to the beautiful desert. Flying over it, makes you quiet and feel so small.
We spent two days
in Brisbane and visited the Koala Sanctuary. Our family is not at all filled with zoo-loving members, but we wanted to see Koalas! And we have to admit, we actually LIKED the park (except for the 'cuddling area', where people paid 10 dollars to be on the picture with the one overcuddled Koala). After this, we headed for Hervey Bay. That was the starting point of our trip to Fraser-island. So we got on the bus, and met our guide for the day: 'captain Kangoroo'! Again, we all agreed about his very good skills! We took the boat to the island, and there Captain Kangoroo took us around the island in his big four-wheeldrive bus. The whole island is just sand, and everybody just drives around on the beach, where people walk, picnic, little airplanes depart,...crazy! We learned some things about the fauna and flora, did some walks and swam in lake Mckenzie. At night fell asleep very happy.
After this, we went up north to Mc kay, did a walk in 'the mountains' in Eungella N.P., and spotted wild platypuses (vogelbekdier) and turtles. The same night we seemed to drive to the end of the world! Cape hillsborough. There we slept in a cabin on the beach. Me and my father woke up at 6.00 in the morning to see the kangoroos on the beach. As promised they were there exactly at 6.05... but then the monkey came out of the sleeve (aap uit de mouw 😉, the boss of the camping site came with his bucket of food, out of the bushes! We felt like stupid tourists...
We made our way up to Airlie beach where we could rest, go for a run, swim. The next day, we went on bord of the 'camira' sailing ship. 'All included'... Hmmm, the early tea in the morning with coocked with 'creme freche' on top, punished the ones who ate too much. A lot of the coockies, landed in the wide open sea in form of something more liquid...
The weater was not too good, but it couldn't bother us. We went snorkling and saw the first reef in our lives! Awesome.
One day later, we made our way up to Cairns. There we stayed in the 'Floriana'. A kind of Fawltey towers looking guesthouse, and the manager was as crazy as John Cleese.
Another day on the sea, was waiting for us. This time, it was a normal boat who took us to the Frankland Island. Again we did some scubadiving, and it was even better than last time! (great barrier reef). Even mama tried the scuba-diving, wich was a great source of hilarity! But she did it..
The next two days we when to palm cove to have some rest... because it was the last two days for my family in Australia... On Sunday 20th of april they left...
And again, I was on my own...
BUT... a few weeks earlier, I received on e-mail from my aunt, that I as well (like everybody else), had
some family from family...where could go and stay for a while, if I wanted to!
So that decision was made easily.
Destination: Perth (WA).
So the 21st of april, I arrived on the other side of australia! (six hours flying).
And here I am, in the house of Luc and Judith! Luc is a captain (on the sea) and judith is an artist.
They welcomed me like I was their own child! It's a great atmosphere here at home. Luc is Belgian,
and made me already 'frietje met biefstuk', dilicious!
Anyway, at the moment I'm trying to find a job here...in the meanwhile, I am visiting things here and there. It is great to be back in civilisation for a while, visiting museums, going for a run, watching television,... hehe. (Only my backpackers clothes aren't really fitting).
They borrow me their camera.. so soon you'll have a better view on my life here.
See you later!
